Give me and answer a child can grasp......I give them eternal life and they shall never perish. John 10:28 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life Matthew 25:46 So unless someone says that even a child cannot understand this...eternal means forever. So the simple math would be once born again always born again.

Do you really think we have to do nothing?

Here are scriptures that tell us what to do.

Luke 21:19 By standing firm you will gain life.

Matthew 10:22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24:13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Romans 2:7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

Hebrews 10:36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

James 5:8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.

I'd say eternal means forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever

Aha, but the original word translated incorrectly as "eternal" does not mean eternal or forever. "Aeon" or "eon" simply means a "long but indefinite period of time."

I believe those scriptures are easy enough for a child to understand.

God gives you eternal life if you keep doing good until He comes again.

Then it never was eternal life, but only temporary life.

How does it make eternal life not eternal?

"Eternal" means forever, but "eon" does not.

I was just speaking to the correct meaning of the word in the original language.

I have come to clearly see the importance of understanding the true meaning and context in which something was originally written. Incorrect translations and interpretations of the original can lead to sadly -- even tragically -- false doctrines and practices.

Jesus will tell them on the left, I never knew you. He never said He would say I once knew them, and then they forfeited their salvation, and I forgot them. Nope. Just like Jesus stated, I never knew you.

No, not according to the word "eon". 'Eon" is an "age", and an age is a long but indefinite period of time. The time involved is thus open-ended.

Then the gift is based on my good works - not based on grace so then I can boast!

Hmmm - However, I just looked up John 10:28 and the word is "aionios" and according to Strongs, the definition is: 1) without beginning and end, that which always has been and always will be; 2) without beginning3) without end, never to cease, everlasting.

It's the same word that is in Matthew 25:46. So I'd say that your definition is incorrect.

Eternal life is given to us in spite of ourselves. That's why Grace is "unmerited favor" for crying outloud. And Grace is eternal in existance.

If this ole boy got what he "worked out", I'd be there with the rich man in Luke 16....thank and praise Him for His Grace/unmerited favor!!
