What does freedom really mean?

Today is the 4th of July and many will celebrate freedom. But what does freedom really mean? Many think freedom is all about the pursuit of happiness, the pursuit of ones ambitions, passions, dreams, desires, and live life to the full. As I myself am learning in the career field I may not get exactly the job that fulfills all my dreams, passions, desires, and fulfillment. However many career authors write their books with this perspective, yes even ones that claim to be christian. So what does freedom mean to you?

When you become a child of God are you a slave of God, or is salvation just a ticket to heaven and is the earth just another paradise of freedom for your pursuits and pleasures? Many churches these days do not preach much or at all on this topic in their own shame, as most do not want to hear any offensive message. But I hope this will challenge you. I myself am suffering the consequences of trying to fulfill my pleasures years ago in the Charismatic movement with my debts. So the pursuit of pleasure does have a consequence just as living for Christ has one. Stephen paid with his life, and as a certain author that I won't name mentioned in his book becoming a christian may cost you your life, your job, your finances, your family and your health.

Ok, what does less government mean?

It means self governance, it means freedom to succeed and fail on our own, it means keeping the money you have worked for in order to provide for your family and to succeed, it means having the ability to love this country and fly the very symbol that represents it, it means recognizing that God gave us our freedom and having the ability to express that anywhere we go, it means deciding for ourselves what we will eat and drink, it means respecting those who fought and died for our freedom, it means the freedom to worship God in our homes without interference from silly regulations, it means not having an agenda to control our use of firearms, it means being able to hunt, fish, and enjoy the creation God gave us dominion over.


It is sad that the youth of today do not understand that sometimes simple sentences mean much more that the few words involved in making them. Never say more than you need to in order to get your point across.

Neither. Under Jewish law a slave was released after seven years, but the former slave could choose to be bound to his master (bond servant). If he/she chose to do this, they were bound for the rest of their lives. Nether of these situations are slavery as we now view it being either temporary or voluntary. It is the latter that we become when we become children of God, voluntary slaves. Now, we can choose to be good bond servants or bad bond servants and we all become bad ones from time to time.

Freedom is a physical condition. The political condition mentioned by some is not freedom but liberty. The terms are not synonymous:
