What if I'm too rebellious to be a christian?

    I don't know what to do. :(
My problem is that I'm so rebellious. I don't know what to do about it. There are days when I already don't feel well because of other things and then I get such rebellious thoughts against God. I don't know how to deal with them. For example I get thoughts like "God only wants to be prayed to and only wants to be worshipped" and then I think about what heaven will be like and I ask myself what if everything we do there will be bowing down to God all day? What if I don't like this?
Somehow I sense a resistance against this in me. Or when I read Romans 9:21 then it sounds like God created people only for destruction. Can he do this? I mean if God only created us to torture us would you also agree with this and say that this is his right? I know this is only hypothetical but does the fact that you created something really give you the right to do with it whatever you want? Is this even what Romans 9:21 means? I feel really rotten. What if I'm simply to rebellious to be a christian? I have prayed about this so often but nothing changes. What if I'm simply not destined to be a christian? What if my own will is too strong? I also have problems with authorities. I cannot stand it when somebody wants to tell me what to do. In school I also argued with teachers. Often I feel like God wants to take everything from me which I like and that he only wants me to be like a puppet which is only there to please him. Maybe my view of God is also distorted and too negative. I don't know what to do against this. It really drags me down. :(
When christians for example say something like "We were made to make God happy" or something like that then it's like there is something in me which screams "what about me! I wanna do what I wanna do!". Is this me? What is this? What if I'm simply too rebellious to be a christian? :(
Does God want to break our will? Often I imagine God like a dictator who says "Either you do what I want or you go to hell". This scares me. :(
Will we be like robots in heaven? For example disagreeing with God is already a sin. How does God make sure we cannot sin anymore in heaven?

    The unbeliever:

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

    The believer:

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    And I might add:

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:" Rom. 8:14-16

I would recommend that you give your life over to Christ and receive His glorious Gospel, and then the Holy will give you a right view of God.

First thing is to accept Jesus as your Savior. He knows how you are, and He knows who you are!!

If you ask Him to come into your life, He will help you.

Next thing you need to know is that God gave us a free will. We can accept Him or not, it's up to us.

But praise God, when you say to Him, I'm yours Lord, do with me what you will, He will change your wanter. In other words, the things that you feel are important now, may not matter much once you get to know the real Jesus!!

Don't worry about that scripture in Romans 9-21. Read the book of John, read any of the four gospels first.

God loves you, and He doesn't want any of us to perish, Praise God!

    Working for Jesus,

If every person who receives Chrit into their lives was the same, what a tedious life this would be. There are plenty of examples in scripture where believers still went their rebellious ways. One example is Jonah. He was told where to go and what to do. He rebelled and God dealt with him by having him thrown out of the ship. It was when he obeyed the will of God, he found new joys in Him.

The same is true in our own lives. We want to do our own thing. Only when we submit to the Almighty do we find true joy and purpose in life. Rebellion is a sign of disatisfaction with something. Once we submit our entire life to Christ, He becomes all consuming without even thinking about it.

It is simple to tell you to get saved, but I understand that some do rebel inspite of giving their life to Christ in redemption. The next step of sanctification is the hardest. Keep working at it, my friend. As the saying goes: "Let go, and let God".

Cheers, and God bless. At least you want to succeed in your Christian life.

Yes, you are too rebellious and sinful to be a Christian. Everyone is, or was at one time. It is only through the power of God that you can be transformed by the renewing of your mind and be pleasing to God. Read the Bible. It will help you answer some of these questions. Even though you are sinful and rebellious, God can overcome that.

But the thing is I don't even want to be rebellious! :(
And I have already prayed about this so often, why is there no progress? I don't understand this. Shouldn't God be totally keen on granting such prayers?
Or what if these rebellious thoughts are not even my thoughts but from Satan? How am I supposed to know this? What if these are demonic thoughts?

One step at a time, and it must be forward. It is here we quote the scripture, where you must "work out your own salvation in fear and trembling..." Not that salvation is our works, but our sanctification depends on those holy steps in concord with God's plan for your life.

Surrender completely, and I assure you, you will find God leading you each step of the way.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hi Jim!
But what does it mean to surrender completely?
I mean is this something like a prayer where you say "Okay God I surrender completely"? How do I know that even if I say it I really mean it? What if subconsciously I don't totally mean it?

Do you have a Bible? If not, may I suggest that you spend some time reading one here.

Perhaps, you might spend some time in the Gospel of John or the book of Romans. See if this helps.

That is for you to decide, my friend. Each of us knows when we are responsible, and it is up to us to decide to move on. Reading the Bible will tell you what God expects of us, and anything short of that is against His will.

God did His part; He provided a way of salvation. Now you must do your part and submit FULLY to Him. No one ever said it was easy. Nil sine labore,,,,,nothing without labour. Work at it my friend....work.

    Cheers,

    Jim

But this sounds like I have to change myself.
But I cannot change myself. Only God can.

There is a dichotomy of confusion as to what God has done, and what man must do. Theologically we know that God does all things, but humanly, we are responsible to work together for good.

Work at it, my friend, knowing that God will do a good work in you...don't try to philosophize which comes first, the chicken or the egg. Do all things as if it all depends on you, knowing that it all depends on God.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Good questions - I asked them myself. It was a major concern because I had lived so many years thinking I was doing the right thing, so when I gave my life to God, I got confused a lot at first.

Surrendering to God is a constant state of your heart. A willful dependence on God and a willful decision to live life His way, not your own. The Holy Spirit will enable you, but God will "test" your heart and your motives. Not to make you fail, but to get you to examine how you are reacting to God and do you really want to live for Him.

It is not easy being a Christian. It is very difficult because we want to do things that feel good and that will override what God wants us to do. That is why we have to spend tons of time reading His Word and communicating with Him.

Communication with God is just not saying a prayer, or even having quiet time - but it is a mindset of keeping God first. The Holy Spirit works in us to keep us motivated to seek after God, but we have to keep submitting ourselves to that. It's not like you say - ok God have at it - submission is a constant "battle". As you get closer in relationship with God it becomes more "natural" and you begin to totally shun the things you used to do. Remember - it is a process.

It might help if you have people around you that are also submitted to God and seeking to live life as He chooses. If you hang around with people who are not committed, it will drag you down.

Do you have a church that you go to? I know it helped me a lot when I was a new Christian. Just to have someone to talk to, and listen to.

Be sure you pray and ask God where he wants you though! Because I believe that it's important to go to the church he wanys you in.

Might even be a Baptist church, [IMG]

    Hi xxxdisciplexxx,

There's been some great responses so far. I haven't got much to add, except that God loves you and is willing to help you. Keep on praying and reading the Bible, never give up! Change WILL come.

I will be praying for you, take care.

Edited to add this Scripture, hope it will encourage you!

"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6)

    xdisciplex,

your walk sounds much like my walk. I have never cared too much for people telling me I had to do something and so following the law even as a Christian has been a struggle. I as one who has had to struggle with rebellion find comfort in the knowledge Paul struggled with rebellion himself (Rm 7:14-25). Paul who finds himself torn into by the struggle rebellion has caused in him turns to the one thing that gives comfort to all who struggle with rebellion, Jesus. For of all people, Jesus was willing to die for the rebellious and as God his grace is more than sufficient to wash away the sins of even the most rebellious person to ever live.

Also while prayer is a good thing it is not what you should be relying on, God doesn't usually beam things straight into our heads, He likes to work through means such as His word. If you are worried over a passage such as Rm 9:21,22 then it is very likely you don't have anything to worried about. It is the people who are not worried about the passage who should be worried, for they see themselves as greater than God just as Pharaoh saw himself as greater than God.

I will part with these final thoughts. It is very likely you will struggle with rebellion until the day you die, rest assured that God grace is far greater than any amount of rebellion we can create. I'd suggest finding yourself a Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche congregation, your less likely to hear Gospel adulterated by the Law there.

"Tell me, what’s going on inside of me?
    I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I’m still a man in need of a savior"
