    What Is A Soul Winner?

    I. WHAT IS SOUL WINNING

    A. Proverbs 11:30

    B. The Hebrew word for “winneth” is laqach and means “receive, acquire, or bring.”

    C. The word does not mean “to persuade.”
    1. We can persuade no one to be saved. It is God who does that.
    2. Luke 16:31; Acts 26:28

    D. God does the persuading
    1. Col. 1:12-14; John 16:8

    E. We do not “win” souls to Christ
    1. We win them to a hearing of the Gospel
    2. Preaching the Gospel is our job, and it is the only job we can do so that people can
    come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

    F. We can “save some”
    1. Rom. 11:14; 1 Cor. 9:22
    2. Paul does not mean that he is the instrument of salvation but that he has delivered the
    message of the Gospel, which can save through the power of God.
    3. Romans 1:16

    II. WHAT DOES A SOUL WINNER NEED?

    A. A clean heart: Psalm 24:3-4; Psalm 51:7-13

    B. Not of the world: John 17:16; 2 Cor. 6:17; Gal. 5:24, 6:14; 1 John 2:15

    C. Have no fellowship with darkness (sin): Eph. 5:11

    D. Assurance: 2 Tim. 1:12

    E. Obedient: Acts 5:32; 1 Sam. 15:22

    F. Compassion:
    1. Fishers of men: Luke 5:6-10; Matt. 4:19
    2. A burden: Rom. 9:2-3; Rom. 10:1
    3. Encouragements to develop compassion
    a. Seek the spiritual meaning of the word of God
    b. Think about God’s mercies to you
    c. Constant companionship with Christ and the Holy Spirit
    d. Secret prayer, praying for the lost (make a list)
    e. Constantly look for opportunities to witness.
    f. Communicate with other soul winners
    g. Remember that we are ambassadors for Christ, 2 Cor. 5:20
    h. Realize that anyone who is lost will be doomed to eternal punishment.

    G. A prayer life: Jer. 33:3; Matt. 6:6, 21:22; 1 Thess. 5:17

    1. Jesus prayed, but he did not pray “The Lord’s Prayer.”
    a. He prayed often.
    b. He prayed in public.
    c. He prayed in secret.

    2. Paul prayed
    a. He prayed during his conversion, Acts 9:11
    b. He prayed while being taught of Christ in Arabia, Gal. 1:12, 16-17

    3. Other men prayed
    a. Luther, Calvin, Knox
    b. Wesley, Finney
    c. Charles Spurgeon, Dwight L. Moody
    d. Missionaries such as Livingstone, Carey, Judson
    e. George Meuller known for his praying
