A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America' for an amount of 'up to and including My life

I think in the USA you define veteran as anyone who has served in the regular military. It seems that way to me.

In Canada and the UK, a veteran is any military person who has served in military action, a war or peace conflict.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Jim1999, technically, a US veteran is someone who has served honorably in any branch of the military (which includes National Guard and Reserve forces) for 180 days. I must admit I like the definition Salty provided, though!:love2:

You can be a Veteran or a Veteran of a foreign war. That's why they have the V.F.W. and American Legion. Either way, you're still a Veteran and deserve our thanks and support!

Nov 11th is observed around the world as being the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, or the official conclusion of World War I,,,,,the war to end all wars.ahem, then 25 years later................

As it should be -- soldiers don't determine when there will be conflict and if and when they will participate.
