Ecumenical means worldwide universal. The goal of ecumenicalism is to bring all religious groups together into one worldwide entity.
Various aspects of the Ecumenical Movement are:
The World Council of Churches
The National Council of Churches
Parachurch organizations, such as Campus Crusade for Christ, Youth for Christ, Youth with a Mission, Lusanne Committee for World Evangelism, and World Evangelical Fellowship.
The unscriptural traits of the Ecumenical Movement are:
downplaying doctrinal purity and refusing to practice biblical separation
downplaying the role of the local church and exalting the inter-church, interdenominational relationships.
substituting social and political endeavors for Christ's command of world evangelism (Matthew 28:19-20) and church planting.
The Ecumenical Movement is dangerous to Fundamentalism because it is based on a man-made unity, not a biblical unity. True Christian unity is God-made, not man-made.
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

I would go even further and say that not only is doctrineal purity downplayed, it is also just plainly ignored.
What kind of fellowship can we have with those who hold to salvation by grace plus baptism?

The ecumenical movement is a movement to develop unity among Christians by willingly and willfully denying basic Christian doctrine. Once liberals openly denied the truth, it was not hard for them to unify. Since fundamentalists continue to affirm truth, they cannot join in with the ecumenists.
