What is your view of the State of the Union Address?

My view was on a 19" TV at the gym near the treadmill.

 

There are comments about it on other forums. I think people are preferring to post there in stead of here. I found myself doing the same thing.

With the concerns about Iraq at present, It was televised in Australia, I watched some of it in my lunch break, which was mainley the first part about domestic issues, but id have to say surley everyone would be in favour of the bit about tax cuts .

 

Surprisingly enough, I'm not sure that's the case. Hopefully the polls will start showing 60-70% support for the tax cuts and the Dems will feel the pressure, but I'm not holding my breath.

 

I think its very sad the Democrats who love to tax us all have got so many people in this country fooled into voting for them. I wholeheartedly support Bush's efforts to put more money back in the hands of those who earned it in the first place. I was sort of angered after watching the speech to listen to the Democratic responce...It was the same ole nonsence the democrats have always been spewing..."Oh he's trying to give more money back to the wealthiest 1% of the rich." Give me a break...

I call on all liberal tax and spend politicians to resign their post

 

Bravo President Bush!!!!!!

I thought the speech was excellent, and especially the segiment dealing with terrorism and Iraq. The depth of feeling was poignant, and rousing support from BOTH sides of the asile tremendous.

I felt the democratic response was truly redundant, considering that the canned response was recorded PRIOR to the SOTU, and devoid of any mention of Iraq.

I felt that this was one of the President's greatest speeches.

May God bless our Commander-in-chief, and all of the troops.

Good speech but not much new. I thought the help for families of prisoners and AIDS relief were interesting touches.

I keep waiting for the hammers that never seems to come from the Republicans. Many working class people I know recognize how the economy works... I can't understand why the GOP lets the Dems get by with this top 5% non-sense. If the truth was known, 75% or more of that 95% probably owe their jobs to the successful investments of those 5%.

 

This is true, The Republicans would be wise to launch a sustained PR campaign (a truthful one) explaining to the people their true ideals and shatter some of the old Dem. myths. Sometimes they seem to let the Democrats get away too easily with all the lies and scare tactics they use on the elderly and poor.

 

With unemployment being what is due in part to companies moving their operations out of the country, I was disappointed he did not touch on NAFTA

 

This is true, the more jobs that flow out of the country equals less salaries the government can tax, thus keeping taxes high for all of us which further hurts the economy, because we have less money to spend, and on and on the cycle goes...This is why its so important to buy American. When we buy american it puts money into the hands of the US Gov. as opposed to buying Made in China which puts money into the hands the chineese gov.

 

I thought it was a good speach. It brought tears to my eyes.

Lines have been drawn in the sand between Irac and the rest of the world. Bio weapons can not be allowed to exist, that is completely terrifying.

 

Bush did not mention NAFTA because he is part of the elite crowd that are looting the USA for their own selfish profit. Wasn't it his daddy who set NAFTA up?

With only a few small exceptions the speech could have been one of Clinton's.

 

I think Bill Clinton was a better speeker. President Bush tends to speak slowly, and I find myself drawn in to what he says but also fighting to stay awake because of his monotone.

I wonder if John Quincy Adams was constantly compaired to his father while in office. Well, at least back then, there were no television sets or internet. Pardon my ignorance; but what is NAFTA?

I came back to this thread because I realized that I spelled Iraq incorrectly... please forgive me.

 

I often find myself comparing the elder and junior. I don't think it's appropriate to do so, so I often correct myself. It's hard enough being the Prez let alone being compared to another family member.

As for speaking style. I think he's a good speaker. Clinton wasn't bad either. Their styles are different.

Still, my favorite speaker was Reagan. He could go on for hours about absolutely nothing, and it would still be interesting to listen to him speak.
