I’m running a Penn Senator 6/0 for heavier stuff of the boat, bottom bouncing reef fish. Shimano 700 for medium stuff and trolling estuary. Abu Garcia 6500 Chrome Rocket for everything from bait casting to trolling to surf to bottom bouncing.
Shimano Curado 200G7 for Barramundi and squid, estuary fishing.

Anyone running those old American pistol grip style bait casting rods. I think it was used for bass fishing mostly.

I do. For freshwater. And antique reels, mostly old Pflueger and Shakespeare. I even use a metal Heddon rod sometimes.

Is that for Bass? Bass would be the equivalent of our Barramundi, only Barra can get much larger.

I can’t see myself using an egg beater reel much anymore, far more control using overheads, especially with the new wind on leaders. 20 feet or more of nylon leader to tie off terminal tackle without needing a swivel.

I will still use large egg beaters for giant Trevally using surface poppers. Many are over 50kg and hit like a train.

I snouted around some American fishing shop websites, man you guys have access to really good gear, and many options for upgrading reels and bearings. All at far better prices, far better than here. I suppose it’s the economies of scale type of thing.

I’m having to catch more fish to eat these days, the damage of the communist lockdowns has been amazing.
