It has been stated before on this board that genuine Christians will not willfully sin against God. If a person willfully sins against God that proves they were never truly saved. That the Bible teaches that sin is a willful act of disobedience against God, it is clear that when we as Christians sin we do so because we choose to. The poll and the discussion for this thread is what sins are truly born again Christians capable of?

Wellll, to stick my foot into this murky water . . .

I think we Christians are capable of doing any old nasty thing the public in general is capable of doing.

I think how long we continue to sin, our separation, our repentance are all marks of how much we've allowed our carnal nature to dominate. I think the longer that I'm His, the more I want to serve and please Him, the quicker I am to recognize what I've done and the sooner I confess.

I voted for all sins except the blasphemy of the HS, because to commit that, as I understand it, means a rejection of Christ and who he is. You cannot do that if you are saved, imo.

rbell... you have no scriptural proof that all sin is willful.

Do you have Scriptural evidence of what sins are not willful?
We sin because we choose to sin.

Mat 15:18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

The heart is the seat of the will.

If it is not willful then it is not disobedient. If it is not disobedient then it is not sin.

    DHK,

What do you make of this passage of Scripture:

    Romans 7:15-25

    Gekko,

I'm a bit rusty, greek-wise, but I believe there are about ten words (more if you count the variants) in Greek that carry the idea of "sin" in the NT. Nine of them clearly carry the idea of willful disobedience. Only one--agnoema--may carry any idea of ignorance of wrongdoing. And that word only appears once in the NT, in Hebrews 9:7. Not all translations agree with that connotation, either...some simply translate the word "error."

I stand by what I said, along with scriptures posted by others. All sin is willful.

Let's say for a moment that I have read all the scripture verses concerning the consumption of alcohol and determined that it is not sinful to drink a glass of wine, at home with my wife, with my dinner.

Let's also say that in reality, I have misread the scripture verses and God really does consider it to be sinful to consume a glass of wine because it falls into the category of "strong drink". I have not willfully sinned, but sinned in ignorance.

    peace to you:praise:

Let's also say that in my heart as a Christian, I do not want to sin, but that sin nature within me causes me to do those things I don't want to do. Am I willing to sin as a Christian, or am I struggling with the sin nature within me?

    We're all boogers.

While we may be saved boogers, we're still boogers in this world.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when you assign a work of God, such as a miracle He has performed, as the work of satan. (Matthew 12:22-32; Mark 3:22-30)

You can still as a saved person reject Christ or commit blasphemy, but thank the Lord that HE is good, because we can never lose our salvation, so even if you were saved, and then chose to reject Christ, you will still go to heaven, you just wont get any crowns.

Where do you find that in scripture? I believe in the perseverence of the saints, however, if a person is acting like a lost person, and publicly rejects Christ, he certainly shouldn't have any assurance of salvation. If is very likely he was never saved to begin with.

    peace to you:praise:
