i have an unusual problem [IMG]

before being saved, i spent around 4 years studying judaism, pursuing an orthodox conversion. in this process, i have an acquired an extensive library (over 100 books) of jewish religious material. what should i do with it all? my first thought was to donate it to a synagogue, but do i really want to help perpetuate their errors? i could just throw it away, but i know jews would hate this, in fact there is a jewish law requiring the "redemption" of such books at up to market price (at least the ones that mention god's four letter name).

what to do? i'm leaning towards just throwing it away.

If you can list what you have (I know it will take time) -- there may be some books that are valuable resources for some who are doing historical studies. I, at least, would be interested in knowing what you have. Thanks!

    Timothy!
Don't do that. If you're really going to throw them away e-mail me and I'll pay for you to ship them to me.
I'm trying to build my library up, it's horribly small, and this is one subject I love to read about! [IMG]

I also think they would be good for studies. I would be interested.

A book is a friend, and one should never dispense with a friend. There is always a use for books, any books. They are useful teaching tools.

I dontated part of my library to a local Bible College, and the remainder will go there upon my death. Books deserve to be where they will be read.

    Cheers,

    Jim

my concern is that these books are extremely heretical and could be used to lead people, or keep people, away from christ. christianity, whenever it is touched upon, is presented as base idolatry and very cleverly and persuasively argued against. many of these books are very dangerous. :(

i guess i don't understand. if i had an extensive mormon or jehovah's witness library would people be so interested?

i'm not trying to be insulting, please don't take it that way. :(

No, i do not take you offensive. The thing everyone is saying, when you get into Bible study, understanding the way some things are, can help you understand the scripture. I love studying Jewish history and culture. I can understand a lot of the scripture because of studying the other.

Hope I did not confuse you.

Yes!!! I'd be especially interested in the Mormon ones! [IMG]
One thing people tend not to like about me (among many ;) ) is that I feel it's important to have a solid grasp on other people's beliefs before you can witness to them. I've found that studying opposing views also strengthens my faith in the truth.
    Make sense?

perhaps i'm being too harsh, i can understand people wanting to understand the historical basis of christianity. but please understand orthodox judaism today is the spiritual descendent of the pharisaical judaism of the first century - an empty hypocritical religion of works that exalts man-made rules above god's law and vehemently denies our saviour. true judaism ended in the first century, it does not exist today among the orthodox.

edited to add: well, if it exists it exists among the messianic jews of today. forgot about you guys [IMG]

    I remember that part.
As a child I asked the Rabbi once about Jesus and was told "he was a very great man, but nothing more". As I grew older the answers were much more harsh. Strange how in all religions that aren't totally true there is always a gentler explanation to newcomers or to children, but when you get older and are entrenched in it they slam you with what they REALLY think!

    timothy,

Maybe the Lord had you build that library to use them in your own ministry to the Jewish people. This type of resource is invaluable to those in that type of ministry.
