    WHAT WOULD JESUS DRIVE?
(Memphis, Tennessee-AP) -- "What Would Jesus Drive?" is a
campaign aimed at raising the environmental and ethical
consciousness of Christians as they chose what to drive.
Reverend Jim Ball, who heads the Evangelical Environmental
Network, is driving through the Bible Belt in a fuel-saving
hybrid car spreading the word that Jesus would not drive an
    environment-polluting, resource-depleting gas-guzzler.
Ball believes vehicle choice is a moral issue for
Christians who are obliged to protect God's creation.
Ball and other religious leaders plan to meet with the Bush
administration, Congress and Democratic presidential candidates
to press for raising the fuel economy requirement to 40 miles per
    gallon.

If affordable cars are eventually produced, I might be able to afford a used one...so it will have to be at least five years after they reach mass-production.

I have made up my mind to not make car payments again. As for what these folks believe on the environment and stewardship, I agree. But part of stewardship is deciding what to do with the money God provides. In as much as it is possible, I choose not to make interest payments.

Therefore, when the electric/gas hybrid cars reach mass production and reliability, five years after that, I may be able to afford a used one, cash on the barrel.

Right now, I own a '93 Sable station wagon and a '79 GMC pick-em-up. I can "afford" to make payments on new vehicles, but I choose not to.

Cindy, I've noticed you've posted quite a few news articles in recent days. I sure would like to know what you think about some of them! What's your opinion about this one?

The Rev Ball has surely made up an issue which will give him a lifetime job.

Surely there are more worthy "causes" where he could expend his energy.

The main problem for the average person is that these crusaders never stop and thing through what could be the unintended consequences if their ideas were made into law.

Yes, we can do better environmentally but it will be accomplished incrementally, not in one fell swoop. It will also be accomplished mainly through the price mechanism of free enterprise if it is to actually help people and not hurt them, not through government fiat.

Agreed. In the meantime, Jesus would drive a Jeep. [IMG] [IMG]

But SUVs are small potatoes when it comes to environment....compared to this:

I think it is a foolish misuse of Jesus' name.

I believe Jesus would drive an SUV. What better way to get His 12 disciples and Himself from town to town. :D

Look at what happened when the libs decided they anted 3 gallon toilets instead of 5 gallon toilets.

The three gallon toilets are inefficient and have to be flushed more often, causing more water to be wasted.

They claimed to be concerned about the environment, but they haven't taken one step to do away with the three gallon toilets.

Agreed. The first and best option is always to work through free markets.

    Rememeber what Reagan said:

"The most frightening words in the English language are: Hello. I'm from the govrnment and I'm here to help you.

Better yet...I have a decal for my car that sticks to the back window and says:
    "Now how would Jesus drive?"

Air bags, seat belts and child seats were instituted mainly through government fiat. Was this good or bad?

My dad to this day refuses to wear a seatbelt.
