    Your Sunday-School teacher/director was using the class for a personal agenda?

    A few years ago I gave into a friend's pressure to visit a Sunday School class that is normally taught by a deacon. (I'm not at this church any longer btw). I picked the day when the normal teacher was sick and had asked his friend to substitute. This particular class was taught "lecture" style, and we weren't more than 5 minutes into the lesson when it became clear the man was VERY ticked with the female gender. I don't know if he had a fight with his wife or what.

    He started out in Timothy, and got off on a tangent saying men need to be wary of all women as all women are trying to seduce them, claiming we can't help it, it is in our nature. Then he started saying women have no understanding of the important of discipline, and used mothers who allow children to run wild in waiting rooms as proof of his point, and on and on and on it went. Men and women started walking out, some were muttering loudly. He then moved into how women should not be allowed to work because they only demeaned and embarrassed their spouses if they did. He ended his tirade with, "And I don't want any of you to come up to me after this and tell me how wrong I am."

    Another time a man was teaching a similiar class and made a remark that a great many of the class thought was incorrect. One man, whom most of us knew, raised his hand and said, "I'm sorry, but I disagree with your interrpretation." The man who was teaching the class literally sneered and said, "Yes, well, I'm sure you do, but you see, I was a member of Dr. Criswell's congregation, I think my understanding of scripture exceeds yours." The first man said, "Really?" Another man lifted his hand and said, "Maybe you should find out who you just spoke down to son. That man ~taught~ bible to Dr. Criswell." He was accurate. The old man who had been told he was wrong was a retired minister and former theology professor.

    How do you handle that kind of thing? I would have laughed had it not really been such a serious thing for such ego to rule in God's house instead of God ruling in God's house.

    I'd of been among those who were walking out. My husband would have then told me to steer clear of "tirade guy", period. (if I didn't have the good sense to do so on my own)

    It is up to the men in the church to correct those men who do such things.

    Mr. Egotist, would have gotten a roll of the eyes and allowed to hang himself with his own rope. Some things don't need to be "handled" by us. Pride still goes before a fall.....

    First, I would tell him how stupid he is for thinking such things.

    Then, I would make sure he knew that I had a far superior theological education than he did.

    Finally, I would make sure I told everyone I knew about this event and post about it on Christian Discussion Boards where I am quite sure he won't be and therefore, all the board will never hear his side of the story. :rolleyes:

    I am pretty sure that is what I would do.

    You know, I find it fascinating, that when people keep trying to make personal attacks out of things on this board.

    Trust me, Joseph, I know the names of ALL the parties involved, and had I had the intentions you are so rudely trying to credit me with, I would have not hesitated to name the names.

    I SERIOUSLY wanted Christian advice on how to deal with such situations as they are not nearly as rare as I would like for them to be.

    Why YOU keep trying to turn things into a personal attack is beyond me.

    I've told the following before, but it seems somewhat relevant.

    My church has a husband&wife sundayschool teacher's team.
    Their agenda seems to be to teach the most colourfull version of the End Times they can find.
    Because of this attitude, 'accidents' do happen.
    A couple of years ago they taught the kids that the pope has the title: "Vicarius Filii Dei" on his tiara. Which with a bit of numerology turns into the Number of the Beast.

    Anyway I responded by sponsoring a trip to a museum that happened to have several papal tiara's on display at that moment.

    As Jesus said, turn the other cheek [​IMG] If people want to hurt you, sincerley pray for them. Satan soon stops his attacks when it results in fervent prayer.

    I know that it is certainley hard to turn the other cheek, particuarly when the other person acts as if their narcassictic actions are in some way Christian. Yet often the worst attacks on Christians come from others inside the church.

    Was he using some verses from Proverbs to support this thoughts? Context is everything and I think I would have grabbed those verses in context and brought that up. It probably would have only taken one person to disagree for the rest of the class to find their courage.

    I heard of a week night Bible study where a man (appointed by the preacher) told the class that you are married in God's eyes to the first person you have sex with and any other 'marriage' was adultery. One young woman was heart broken and thought she was to divorce her husband and live alone the rest of her life because of a sin from high school. Now, many years later, I run into this teacher with his new wife, her teen daughter and their newborn baby! Hmmmmmm..... No comment!

    I had the luck that the year of that incident (2003) was exactly 150 years after the reïnstatement of Roman Catholic bishops in the Netherlands. So there were some events to commemorate the ocasion. One of them happened to be an exhibition about the treasures of the pope.

    No. He kind of dropped scripture when the tangent started. His only scripture reference was Timothy.

    I was tempted to recommend he read the last book of Proverbs to read about a Godly wife, but I didn't. I really think he was just plain angry at women that day.

    I would smile politely, say, "OK" and proceed to ask him what Jerry Garcia, Charlie Daniels, Billy Joe Shaver, Django Reinhardt, Phil Keaggy and Black Sabbth guitarist, Tommy Iommi have in common, and then walk away.

    A guy like you mentioned Texas sky obviously has issues underneath all that huffin and puffin.

    I wouldn't even take him seriously. Guys like that often times have sin hidden in the closet.
    If he does his sin will surface eventually.

    One of my old Bible professors said that "alot times when guys preach on adultery or pornography all the time are the ones who have pornography in their trashcan behind the study or a woman on the side."

    Of course that is not always the case he was just saying beware of men who stand on soapboxes.
