You can't beat the Montgomery Biscuits, baseball's new team

MONTGOMERY — Atlanta can have its tomahawks. Fans of the South's newest baseball team are brandishing a more domestic tool of conflict: yellow foam rolling pins.

The Nimrods, I think are in Upper Michigan. There is a new baseball team in Corpus Christi that will be called the Hooks, the mascot will be named Rusty. The Lansing (I think) Lugnuts are great as well as the Chattanooga(?) Lookouts. You just have to love the irony in the Chi White Sox wearing black socks in their uniforms, Sholess Joe is rolling in his grave! The Rancho Cucamunga Quakes and Round Rock Express, a team owned by Nolan Ryan, get it Nolan Ryan?

I used to coach in Nebraska where we had the Ord Chandiclears (rooster, probably misspelled), the Minden Whippets (a dog), THe Holdridge Dusters, the Gothenberg Swedes, and my team, the Cozad Haymakers. What a great Conference!

In WV, there's the Charleston Alley Cats AA baseball team. In HS, there were the Ceredo-Kenova Wonders(located near where WV, OH, & KY meet. They won 11 state football titles, & may have been the inspiration for TV's "Waverly Wonders" Waverly is in Ohio & its teams are "Tigers".)

Not too far from us, in OH, there's the Crooksville Ceramics(Crooksville once had a large ceramics factory, the Amanda-Clearcreek Aces, the West Portsmouth Jeeps, & the South Point Pointers.

I see their ballpark is still under construction, and that they're last in their division.

Will they serve biscuits and gravy at the concession stands?

Oh yeah, let's not forget the Georgetown HOYAS. For years, I saw their logo with a bulldog on it & I therefore assumed a hoya was a breed of bulldog. then, I looked it up in ole man Webster's book & found a HOYA is an English gardener, or a species of shrub related to the milkweed.

However, the G-Town Gardeners...er...Milkweeds have had some veddy good basketball teams!

I can remember in high school (IN) the rivalry of the "Slicers" and the "Brickies".
