For your Thanksgiving dinner, or what are you making and tkaing someplace else?

We're eating at Robert and Pam's, and I've had the same request as usual, sweetpotato casserole, along with a carmel pie I've never made that Pam's dad requested I try to make said he hadn't had one in years. And of course a sugar free dessert.

I used to make a caramel pie. You had to boil a can of Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk... the actual can. Got the recipe from either Applebee's or O'Charley's cook. You basically boil it for a long, long time, let it cool a little (so it doesn't spurt all over you when you open the can, and then pour it into a prepared crust.

As to the OP, we are having Thanksgiving here. Between my wife, her mom, and me we will be making the turkey, chicken and dumplins, dressing, buttermilk pies, macaroni and cheese, and maybe the ham. My wife's sister will be bring stuff, as will my mom.

Roast Turkey, Cornbread Dressing, Mashed Potatoes with Giblet Gravy, Green Bean Casserole, Macaroon Sweet Potato Bake, Acorn Cabbage Bake, Scalloped Corn, and Pecan Pie, and Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

This is our 1st Thanksgiving in our new house, so we're going all-out for the dinner.

    I haven't totally decided yet!
    Tentative plan:

Breakfast: Waffles and fresh fruit (apples and oranges)

Snacks for throughout the day and evening and will be out during dinner too: vegetable tray (carrots, celery, olives, pickles, cherry tomatoes, and more)

Roast turkey with wild rice and cranberry stuffing
Baked green beans with crisp onions
Apple pie, pumpkin pie, brownies. (a few different ones as we all have different tastes)
Rolls with homemade sweet cream butter, since I'll be making whipped cream for the pumpkin pies anyhow. May as well go a step further and make the butter too!

This really works because everything can be worked into everything else...the fruit can be used fresh and in some of the recipes, some green beans can be cooked and some can go for the casserole, leftover cranberries can be used in muffins the next morning, the dough for rolls can be doubled and bread made for turkey sandwiches later, etc.. The carcass of the turkey will be used for turkey soup, which will be frozen and put to use for those winter time colds.

Gotta love Thanksgiving! It's so fun, so tasty, and helps get things settled for the rest of the season. With all the kids, I think they'll also have a blast decorating the house the day before. Give them scissors, glue, and construction paper...you'd be amazed what kids of all ages can do with that stuff!
