Huckabee is very, very soft on illegal immigration, even wanting to take money from me and other taxpayers to give illegal aliens college scholarships.

Plus he had a major hand in the paroling of Wayne Dumond who was convicted of raping a high school girl. After being release, Dumond sexually assaulted and murdered a woman in Missouri.

May the American people have the good sense to never, ever vote Huckabee into the White House.

    More on Huckabee's clemency problem:

Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday carried out his plan to grant clemency to a man who received a life sentence for a drug-related murder three decades ago.

Huckabee’s action makes Wade Stewart eligible for parole, although Stewart still must go through a hearing before he’s released.

Stewart is the 12th person convicted of murder to receive clemency during Huckabee’s years as governor.

For the record, I am not a big fan of Huck politically. However, he wrote a good book on his weight loss. I have a great deal of respect for anyone who can lose weight as he did.

The problem is that he has become Governor Busybody and tries to shove the need for healthy eating in we Arkansas citizens' faces.

I will be very, very glad when he leaves office next January.

Ok, other than being "soft on illegal immigration" and the clemency issue...

What other issues are out there?

I for one, appreciate Huck's wider pro-life approach (i.e. more than just abortion, including helping out the poor, etc.). Then again, I'm somewhat of a liberal on those economic issues.

    About me:

I'm one of those stuck in the middle. I can't vote Democratic because I can't support the pro-choice agenda with all its baggage. I don't really like voting Republican because I disagree with them on a lot of economic and war issues.

I guess I'm the opposite of the normal "moderate." I'm strongly conservative on social issues while somewhat liberal on economic ones. Usually it seems to be the other way around.

That's why I'm rooting for Huckabee. He seems to be one of the closest candidates to my approach.

Why I dislike the reformed fat boy:

    1. He let's rapists and murderers out of prison.
    2. He tried to pass a law through the state legistlature giving illegal immigrants state funded scholarships.
    3. He is constantly trying to shove his diet and way of life on everyone.
    4. His BMI nonsense.

All of this is enough for me. Huckabee needs to retire come this January and just leave politics for good.

Is it necessary to call him names?

I find that most people who make fun of people who lose weight are those who have no discipline or self control to lose the weight that they need to lose.

Being one who yo-yo's, I find the same. When I'm fit and healthy, my "stout" friends always have to find excuses why it's so unhealthy (like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. isn't?), or just flat out make fun of me. But, when I put the weight back on, it's like "see, aren't you happier?" Um no, I'm miserable, and my knees hurt, but hey, if it makes you feel good for having a fellow fatty.

I'm currently at a heavy middle point, where I am 230 lbs, although I have less fat due to building a lot of muscle. My blood pressure is normal though, which is usually my pre-warning that the lard is piling too high. My "perfect" weight with my large frame is 195. But at 230, I can still hop on a skateboard and ride bowls at the skatepark (much to the dismay of my knees.)

The fattest I have ever been was 240 pounds. Quite ironic, due the to subject of this thread, but I gained most of that in Arkansas! I went from 205 to 240 in under two years due to unhealthy eating. I hate to say it, but Arkansas earns its title of one of the more unhealthy places. But, with all that good food, and the humidity, it's easier to stay inside and eat, than go outside with the miserable heat (and ticks, and chiggers.) Oh, and all those Baptist potlucks!

Huckabee has some very good points though in this article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2004-07-11-arkansas-governor_x.htm. I'm a government hands off fan, but in this case, it makes sense if those people living off the state are being unhealthy and costing the tax payers money taking care of them, that the state and taxpayers would want them to shape up.

Ahh.. America... the only country in the world with morbidly obese "poor" people.

I am 6'5" tall and weigh 300 pounds. I blew my back out in 99 and am somewhat disabled. I carry my weight well but do have a bit of a belly. I could really stand to lose about 70 pounds. But being able to excercise like I used to it is very difficult.

My doctor probably weighs 98 pounds in a pair of soaking wet overalls. He tells me I'm obese. Maybe there is some truth to that so I appreciate anyone who is able to control their weight.

If JB is right about this guy I wouldnt vote him to be dog catcher.

I'm not a death penalty advocate by any means, but I don't think pardoning and letting criminals out of prison so they can avoid it is a sound practice.

Even if Huckabee manages to win the Republican nomination in 2008, which is not an unlikely proposition, he would be soundly defeated by whoever the Democrats chose to nominate. So will any other Republican.

There are a thousand years to go through, politically speaking, between now and November 2008. I wouldn't want to bet money on anything this far ahead.

I agree with Joe to a point

Huckabee lost me when he paroled some criminals who had done heinous crimes.

Huckabee who once was severely obese won some admiration by losing all that weight and someone who has run 3 marathons in my life seeing Huckabee run one kinda puts him into a unique club...to run a marathon believe it or not it is more mental than physical..hard to believe but that is the truth.

Now he could be positioning himself over the major debate that is coming and that is over health care in this country he may be positioning himself as the alternative to the growing movement for universal health care and with that he may start his own movement.

and BTW isn't Huckabee a Baptist Minister surely he still has his degree and such.

    The Huckster isn't qualified

When Gov. Huckabee appointed Faye Boozeman to be in charge of the State Health Dept. he really revealed his inability to put qualified people in important positions.
I do not want to speak badly about Faye Boozeman, he was a kind and gentle person but he was never meant to be in politics.
