what's so enjoyable about getting scared?

Bungie jumpers and thrill ride seekers enjoy something about it.

Those who build skyscrapers enjoy the thrill and challenge.

In the construction of most every major bridge and building there were people killed.

 

I think it may be that people feel "more alive" after a fear response (adrenaline rush). It is similar to the effect of riding a roller coaster or bungee jumping.

 

I think it is the adrenaline rush...
or some other chemical our body releases when scared, that gives a pleasurable feeling.

I hate being scared...

 

It is a chemical reaction the brain has to addrenalin (sp?) and endorphins. Some people like it more then others. Some get it from roller coasters some from scarry movies some from working in the emergency room. People like it to different degrees some alot some not so much. Some people run marathons for the endorphins.

I am confused by your last sentence. Why would you have a problem with being in a church with a person who likes to play practical jokes. Is there something wrong with good natured jokes? Good luck finding a church.

Would not the physical after effect be one of a thrill, that one had risked and survived?

 

Ending a jogging routine does the same thing. Is there something wrong with quitting jogging?

 

I'm referring to the endorphine withdrawl that you state is painful.

This part bothers me very much; the reasons some take these risky rides. It suggest a deliberate need to extend and reach out from their known boundaries, which are safe.

I know quite a few Baptists who like to be scared.

That's why they attend monthly business meetings.
