as he seem to infer that while baptism was part of the message, the Gospel was so much more of the message!
see 1 Corithian 1:14/16, Apostle did not seem to make baptism such a "big deal" as seem to make it!
==I'm not sure how that makes much difference. The Lord Jesus made a very big deal about water baptism. So much of a big deal, in fact, that it was one of his final messages to mankind (Matt 28:19-20, Mk 16:14-16). The Gospel saves but that does not mean that baptism is "not such a big deal". It is a big deal for believers.
Can I ask a question: Have you been baptized? If not, you should be if you are a believer in Christ.

That’s pretty close to stating it. There is also Romans 6:4. And there is not a single instance where we read of Paul leading someone to Christ and neglecting to baptize them. In fact he always baptized them immediately. No watchcare, no period of training or observation, no waiting to see if the new Christian understood what he was doing. Even the Corinthians, only a few of whom were baptized by Paul, were baptized by someone, probably Silas and Timothy. “[M]any of the Corinthians when they heard were believing and being baptized.” Acts 18:8. It seems to me that Paul made a very big deal of baptism.1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. 7 There were in all about twelve men. Acts 19:1-7.
