When does a Gift become yours?

    In essence, the gift becomes yours when you accept it.
    But I found this from a writer in a newspaper advice column"

    "The gift was not really theirs until the thank-you note was in the mail (snail mail, of course)
    After that, they were free to do as they chose with the said gift."

    That's right - email does NOT count - acceptable as an interim (& quick) acknowledgement
