When you are tempted to sin—what helps you the most to say no to that temptation?

Prayer and my love for the Lord.

And by quoting Scripture. (Ps. 119:9,11; Eph. 6:17b)

Just to know that God has promised to give me a way out, that I do not have to do what I am tempted to do, just run from it, whether thats physically or spiritually, emotionally or mentally. And lots of prayer, for strength, and for God to show me my escape route.

Good question. I suppose it's the awareness that He is watching me and my desire to please Him.

Knowing that it should be Christ in me that people see and not me behaving like the idiot I am without Him.

That would be Christ in me as Helen put it - Galatians 2v20.

It is a constant acknowldegement of the exceeding holiness of God and the exceeding sinfulness of my flesh.

Everyone is tempted to sin, and if we're honest the temptations come constantly and even the most righteous man is tempted.

But sin is a choice, when we sin it is because we chose to embrace the temtation. If you ask people to list the most common sins, they would probably say - Lying, stealing, hatred, drinking, smoking, lust, coveting, and they would forget things like self righteousness or gossip.

We are surrounded by the opportunity to sin, and sin is all around us. In fact Satans greatest triumphs have been within the Church itself. If we sin than the choice was ours to sin. That old saying "The devil made me do it" doesnt cut it!

We can only overcome temptation, and receive the victory, through prayer, and faith and by choosing to walk away from the temptation itself. If someone brings the juicy gossip - WALK AWAY and have no part. If your in the store and are temted to put something in your pocket -LEAVE THE STORE and ask God to forgive you for thinking such a thought, If you find you have a dislike for someone and you cant explain the dislike or hatered you feel than pray and ask the Lord to take the hatred from your heart and then go to the person, cofess your feelings and ask thier forgiveness.

Remember, in the eyes of the Lord it doesnt matter if you commit a murder in reality or if you commit murder in your heart, you are still guilty of murder. Confession is good for the soul.

Choose not to give into the temptations, choose to take the temptations to the Lord in prayer and choose not to sin. Confess your thoughts and feelings before the Lord, give your thoughts and feelings to the Lord in prayer, arrange counselling with your Pastor and have faith in the Lord to deliver you from sin.

Remember sin begets sin. Be in constant communication with Jesus Christ through prayer and have faith that He can and will deliver you from sin.

    DITTO!!

I know what besetting-sins that I struggle with and that the Devil will constantly strive to tempt me with. And I've memorized scripture that relates and strengthens me against them and Praise the Lord! because he has given me the victory more times than I can (or care) to remember!

Another thing if I'm busy for Jesus I don't have time to think about myself or be vulnerable to the Devil's tempting. While the Devil is always striving to devour us being busy in God's work is the best defense.

So couple this Scripture Memorization with the Leading of the Holy Spirit in doing Christ's work...then we too can have victory over the sin and will be able to tell Satan "to get thee behind me!!"

Sin will take you further than you want to go...

Keep you longer than you want to stay...

And cost you more than you want to pay.

"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to
    them that love him.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Do not err, my beloved brethren." James 1:12-16

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:16

Reciting Romans 8:13 - "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. "
