Where do YOU like to Go on Mini-Vacation?

Anywhere in Missouri, St. Louis, Kansas City, and especially Branson.

 

Winnepeg, Manitoba 2 1/2 hours away. Visit the museum, zoo or take a river boat to Lower Fort Gary, a fur trading post of the 1700s.

 

Anywhere east of Jackson: eg Nashville, the eastern part of Tennessee, either of the Carolinas, or Georgia.

 

We would choose West Wales, where we used to live. almost a mile to the nearest main road, so quiet and peaceful and a much slower pace of life. We love to just sit and chat to our friends and wander down the lanes, watching the buzzards and red kite. Something to really look forward to.

 

Cape May, NJ

the Eastern Shore ("down the County," for anyone from around there )

Charlottesville, VA

the last three are where some of my dearest friends live, and are well within driving distance for a long weekend

 

Hudson, NY (five hour trip - if we make no stops) - main attraction - five grandchildren - secondary attraction - two children and their spouses.

Lyndonville, VT (7 1/2 trip - if you drive like the kids do - full tank of gas and empty bladder, and hope your bladder isn't full before your tank is empty - it takes us 11 - 12 hours, we don't follow the kids rules) - main attraction - no grandchildren yet - secondary attraction - one child and spouse.

 

I live in middle Tennessee and there are a lot of good places for short trips. My wife and I love to go to state parks and hike. We have been to Natchez Trace State Park. It is quiet, rural, serene. There are small cabins where you can stay for only $55. You can ride on paddle boats (like a bicycle boat) and the main lodge has good food. I preached at a little country church right beside the park. You go a narrow country road several miles and you end up at a small square and in the center of the square is the church. Near the church are old, dilapidated buildings. Looks like a ghost town. The people over-farmed the area and moved away. The church is the only thing that remained. Praise God.
Another good state park is Center Hill Lake which is very close to us. Very comfortable cabins there. I woke up early in the morning and sat on the wooden balcony, watching the sunrise, listening to the birds sing, reading my Bible. A wonderful experience. My job is noisy, dirty and takes lots of work hours. That is why I love cheap short-term vacations in those areas that offer silence, serenity and solitude.

 

We love to travel...doesn't matter much where. We go to Jekyll Island, GA, north Georgia mountains, Panama City Beach, Fl. Recently, we went to Hilton Head, SC for the first time and enjoyed it. We also like the Tennessee and North Carolina mountains.

 

Dr Bob, the potentialities for YOUR mini-vacation are currently MUCH better than mine...but not for long! Here in Nebraska, I would say a trip to Mahoney State Park (above and along the Platte River), with thousands of acres of oak trees, is a great spot for such a mini-vacation. In a week and a half, my favorite spot for a close mini-vacation will be Yosemite! Eat your heart out!

 

Why, Florida, of course!

Florida has so much to it. From Pensacola to the Keys, there is a lot in this state that most people don't even realise.

This summer, the family and I are going to go to Cape Canaveral for the very first time! I have lived in Florida for most of my life, yet never have been there. Then it is off to visit Mama in Palm Beach County, then off to the Keys.

And don't you be worrying none, for the Rebel will be packing plenty of sunscreen!

Mini-Vacation Whats a vacation? Well a day hacking it up on the Golf course works for me. Its the cloest I can get to vacating in a longtime. But if I had my choice Surf City NC

 

Malaysia. we get alot out of the exchange rate.

 

Of course, the BEST mini-vacation can be had at your local golf course!

 

Branson Mo. is a like a mini vacation for us!! but we are thinking about trying to make it to Gatlingburg Tenn.it's an 8 hour drive so we will have to push it but we have never been there.

 

Wildwood/Cape May, N.J. (actually, now that I'm getting older, more Cape May than Wildwood).

We have a place on the Chesapeake that's convenient to Chestertown, St. Michaels, Rock Hall, etc. so, between that and the shore house, I don't take a lot of vacations, except to go "home" once a year or so to the Keys.

Grant's Pass, Or. (moving there next year)
Anaheim, Ca (Dineyland, Knotts Berry Farm of course)
Venice Beach, Ca. (My side of the family's favorite)
San Diego, Ca. (Sea World, Padres Baseball, S.D. Zoo, Legoland, etc.)
Burbank, Ca. (L.A.Zoo)

Or course there's lots of things to do in Southern California...Mountains, Deserts, Beaches, Movie Stars, Movie Sets, The Hollywood Sign, Gromans Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Walk of Fame. California is an amalgam of anything you could possibly want. Probably why everyone who lives here seems to have come from somewhere else. (Dan and I are a rare and dying breed of Californian...we're natives)

 

One of the other fine islands even though you have to fly to them. (Wish they had ferries here)
