We all know that Old Baptist favorite that is sung at many baptisms... Shall We Gather At The River!... Although many Baptist in the past were baptised in the river where were you Baptised?... I was baptised in our church baptistry 35 years ago... Just a simple baptism and nothing different or unique... But then I'm just one of many on this board!... Do you have a story to tell about your baptism?... Brother Glen [IMG]

I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic church. I don't remember much about that one! BUT 27 years ago I was baptized in our church baptistry after accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Our church has an "Old Fashioned Sunday" once a year. We all dress in old fashioned clothes and after the Sunday morning service we have a big potluck on the creek bank and baptize in the creek. I know, I know, it's just a creek, but we still sing "Shall We Gather at the River". [IMG]

I, too, was baptized as an infant, in the Catholic Church, but after coming to faith in Jesus Christ I was rebaptized.

I was baptized in my former church by my former pastor in my former church's baptistry...

Nothing special, except it was a winter night, and the water was warm! :D

    That's my story!

I was sprinkled in 1927 in the Church of England, St. Mary's (Bow Bells) East London, and confirmed there in 1939.

I realized Christ as Saviour in a Plymouth Brethren assembly and was immersed in that assembly in 1945. I became a Baptist under the British Baptist Union that same year. (Incidentally, my PB baptism was accepted by the Baptist Union.) My desires for ministry were fulfilled after graduating from London Bible College (Baptist Union) and I was ordained in 1948.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I know I had an infant baptism in Waco, TX in a Lutheran Church, so says my Dad. I then was baptised by immmersion, at Heath Church of Christ in Heath Ohio. This is the church my parents go to. I was later baptised at Second Baptist Church in Newark, Ohio by my current pastor back in 1990. My church at the time didn't have a baptistry, but we do now in the new building at Licking Baptist Church of Hebron, Ohio. :D  [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I was baptized on Easter Sunday, 1958, in our church baptistry at the Fourth Baptist Church in Minneapolis by immersion.

I baptized both of my sons (baptist preachers) in Lake Chetek in northern Wisconsin, and my daughter in a pond in Dallas, Tx that was filled with copperhead snakes. Had a water deacon with a big leaf rake stand behind me and sweep back and forth to keep snakes at bay.

Just baptized 7 in late summer in the North Platte River since our Free church does not have a baptistry (although we have plumbing in the floor, it's never been finished).

I don't recall anything about my sprinkling, but I was told I was when I was an infant.

I was baptized, a total immersion, in June, 1989, in Paddock Lake, WI, on a Sunday late afternoon. We sang, "Shall We Gather at the River", and a huge crowd stood by for witness. The boaters and skiers stopped and watched as five of us gave our testimony. And all of God's people said, "Amen".! [IMG]

I was "baptized" by sprinkling in a Methodist church, in a private evening service, when I was 9. Mom and Dad had joined the church and, as I just learned in the past couple of weeks, had all us kids baptized because the church requested it. (I had been hoping that this little ceremony would be confirmation for me that Daddy was a true Christian. But no, it wasn't necessarily his wish. Now he's gone, and Mom isn't a Christian, either.)

Four months after receiving salvation and joining a church, I was baptised by full immersion in our church's mock-up of the Jordan River. [IMG] (The original church, now the chapel, has a lovely mural painted in the baptistry - if I came into some $$$, I'd like to provide such a scene for the new sanctuary!) It was August 5th, 2001. There were 8 of us that day, and I was 3rd in line after a former catholic and her grandson. I remember everything the pastor said. I remember his bringing a handkerchief to my mouth, leaning me back, and saying "Relax." I have NO memory of going under the water or coming back up! My next recollection is walking up the steps out of the baptistry, and dripping water all through the hallway back to the changing room. I was baptised by my father in Lake Marquette in Bemidji, MN in 1969. I love outdoor baptisms.

Where I live now, outdoor baptisms are impossible except, perhaps, during the month of July, and that only if you are really tough! The mountain rivers and lakes never really warm up enough to not be dangerously cold.

First Baptist Church in San Marcos, TX, April 1, 1984. What is interesting about this date was also that the church was observing the Lord's Supper that day. Go figure

I was baptized when I was 9 years old at the First Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. That was not the Baptist church I was joining..It didn't have a baptistry.

I can remember seeing my mother and father baptized in a creek when I was about five years old. The church did not have a baptistry.

Russell, I, too was baptized by my father. I was 7 years old. I didn't realize at the time just how special that was.

(And I never realized until recent years what a privilege has been mine to be raised in a Christian, Baptist home & what a heritage it was to be a PK. When I was a kid, I hated being a PK. Now, I feel honored. Funny how the years of time changes perceptions, isn't it?)

All these many years later, I can look back fondly to that little Baptist church in Greensboro, NC. Dad is no longer with us; he is presently with the Master. Hallelujah! [IMG]

I was baptised in the baptistry of the Baptist church I attended in England 'way back in January 1963. It was winter, snow on the ground outside, and the baptistry heater wasn't working!!! Was 15 at the time :)

    Regards
    Bob

I was baptised in the baptistry of the Baptist church I attended in NewArk, Texas. POP. 407 back then.

No one told me to bring extra clothes to change into. And I walked all the way to church with my two little kids at the time. I wanted to be baptised!

So the Preacher asked if I wanted to wait until the following week to be baptised so I would have something dry to put on.

I said NO way. So dress and all I got in that baptistry. Then afterwards, and all the hand shaking, I loaded up my kids, one on my hip, and the other attached to my hand, and I walked all the way home like a drenched rat. That was in 1975.

    Praise God!

I was born again in a Salvation Army fellowship. The movement do not Baptise. Several years later I asked to be Baptised in full Immersion at a Pentecostal Church I was attending.

I was baptised there, and really enjoyed the whole experience, and I would reccomend it to anyone.

I was baptised when I was 19 at the church I attend. That night was special my dad was rebaptised that night because he was baptised aa a young child and didn't really remember it.
Then in that same baptism pool 12 years later my husband was baptised there. With the Lord help and are prayers the children will be too.
