Most of us are probably familiar with the recent thread which began with this subject, which is not exactly a new subject here. So this is just getting an idea of how many really have these positions about Disney animation.

I enjoyed the Disney movies growing up, especially Old Yeller and the Swiss Family Robinson movies.

Many of the newer Disney movies do seem to have a bent towards witchcraft, though. The Little Mermaid was a big disappointment. There was lots of magic and it seemed to promote disobedience to parents with the whole "follow your heart" theme. Alladin, the Return of Jofar and similar movies had too much magic for my taste, even though they were really funny in parts.

Also, if you look at how the "modern" princesses dress, you'll see the older ones like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White are dressed more modestly than the Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, and Jasmine. I have steered clear of buying items with those particular princesses, because I do not want my girls growing up believing that beauty=skimpy clothing. Tinkerbell, while cute, seems to have the same problem.

I'm not going to demonize Disney and blame the company for all of the world's ills, however. Whether or not our children do right does not depend on Disney movies. It depends on us parents to raise them right.

Methinks mewent to a little too much trouble for this poll. But it's nice to see that the few who answered realize that those in business to entertain do not necessarily affirm and promote the material they present. In some cases it would be contradictory, anyway. Furthermore, this becomes gossip when it is said, for instance, that Snow White proves the whole company encourages youth rebellion and sleeping around. I think a lot of people want to make Disney a scapegoat because they did as children (and perhaps as adults) enjoy their programming, but by the 70's or early 80's Disney just had to stop the policy of making nothing but G-rated stuff if it were going to survive. Thus, it "changed," so then those who dislike the changes go back to try to show that there was evil intent all along with their programming, and really stretch the cellulite to do so.

As I mentioned in that other thread, the vast majority of these presentations I have not seen. But I read something from another source that the animated dog movie, Lady and the Tramp, is another one with sexual overtones and encourages fornication. So I looked it up in imdb.com, and there is talk there about sex, but more about it promoting "irresponsible pet ownership" and it treats theft and snobbery too lightly. It seems Disney can't please anyone any more! But then I discovered that movie is available to view on youtube, so I decided to watch it. The 'fornication' is the scene of the dog couple walking in the moonlight, looking over the city, while the crooner music is still playing, then the scene fades out, and after a pause resumes where the dogs are lying together touching. Alright-- I guess they 'did it.' But they ARE dogs... maybe they talk among themselves and have human idiosyncracies to go a along with the canine qualities, but there is little complaint that they ate spaghetti without forks to show Disney promotes ill manners. The one-night stand is even covered ingeniously by the fact that before "Lady" has pups, she marries, per se, the Tramp, so it's not definite that she got pregnant before that. It's kind of embarrassing to have watched that just to see what some people are talking about, but it does seem that Disney tried to cover all bases while presenting a nice story that does reveal some of the 'ugly side' of human civilization seen from a non-human viewpoint.

This is the second thread on BB recently about Disney movies and, again, we have left out the sinister teaching of Bambi that shows that all hunters are evil because they killed Bambi's mother. Let's include the entire record here.

It seems to me that many fabricate their own evil imaginations and tend to envelope that which does not exist in the mind of the six year old entertained by the films.

I shall just enjoy the entertainment with my wee grandson and smile with him.

Cheers,

Jim

Disney is trying to keep up with other TV Networks. And also the Generation we live. It could be probably seen by a Christian A deeper view of some antichristian messages. Jesus told us that lawlessness would abound. But these movies I would think are much better than most made today that use God’s name in vain all sorts of filth language Sexual content, and violence. These movies of Disney are nothing compared to today’s trash. Disney is trying to stay hip. I’ve give them credit for making some movies we this day can watch.

I like Disney movies because they usually lack profanity. Some have gotten less family-oriented since Disney's death, but they're still better than a lot of the garbage that is aired.

I record everything I might want to watch and end up deleting much of it without watching it after the first few minutes because someone uses God's name in vain.

Disney Means No Harm

Remember who the target audience of these Disney movies are.

Just how much do you think that these children really know about?
The parents I'm sure are not going to sit next to them and give them a play by play of what is wrong with the movie with the explanation of why it is wrong.

Let the children enjoy these movies while they are children. I'm sure Disney didn't make these movies for bad reasons to be taken..but with a moral to each movie.

I am not looking for a demon under every rock of a Disney movie but neither would I be that trusting of any movie maker. Always use good judgment and discernment.

I don't watch a lot of disney anymore due to the lack of patience with cartoons, but enjoyed Lion King tremendously on screen and in the theatre.

Generally, IMHO, the movies that ole' Walt made were just pure & wholesome entertainment.

Since he's out of the picture, again IMHO, the quality and morality of the silver screen products - as well as other "DISNEY" ventures - has diminished greatly, and continues in a downward spiral.:tear:

We own on DVD the most evil, awful, anti-everything, child warping, heartbreak of psoriasis Disney movie ever made: Song of the South!

It's one of our family's favorites.
