Who are you?

I have been happily married for almost 40 years, have two grown children, and two wonderful grandchildren.

I worked as a banker up until 1986, when I had a stroke and went on permanent disability.

Like Sherri, I love to laugh, and I try to see the humor in most irritating situations. But I'm also serious about the important things in life. I love the Lord with all my heart, and I do my best to live my life as the Holy Spirit leads.

Before I was disabled, I could play both the organ and the piano. Years ago I played piano for a gospel group called the Gloryland Singers.

My favorite season of the year is autumn. There's something very invigorating about clear crisp days and football weather nights, and also the vibrant colors in nature.

My favorite thing to eat is the chicken pan pie they serve at our local K&W Cafeteria. I've tried to make it, but mine just doesn't taste the same. I like cake and pie too, but I'm diabetic and can only eat them occasionally.

I love this board, and the people on it. I come here every day, but do more reading than posting. I also like to work jigsaw puzzles online.

I could talk all day, but I think that's enough for now.

 

I'm of English, Swedish Cherokee decent. I've had relatives that got their land through the Oklahoma land runs. I had a relative that came over on the Mayflower. I've had at least one relative serving in every war there has ever been in this courty, often times many more than one, including woman. My family has always been farm owners, until the last couple of generations, but we have never owned slaves.

My Swedish relatives were Lutheran. My grandfather and his brother were the first two to become Pentecostal. I'm the first one to become a Baptist. My grandfather was a circuit preacher. I have a lot of relatives that are either pastors, or missionaries. Everyone in my family on both sides is very religious and every person in my family except my 4 year old daughter is saved.

My father's side of my family are very musical. They all sing beautifully. And almost eveyone can play at least one instrument. I love to sing.. I'm a second/first/soprano/alto...I have a three octave range. But I don't like to sing where anyone can see me...except in church.

I was born and raised in Southern California, I'm one of the few remaining California natives. Most people who live here came from somewhere else.

I am not outgoing. I am what could be considered painfully shy. Although I've worked so hard on this problem, that no-one can tell anymore. I am much more comfortable at home than I am at a party.

I am ambidextrous. And have an I.Q. of 145, I have the lowest I.Q. in my family. I hate dumb blonde jokes, I think they are mean spirited and prejudicially offensive. I don't think they are any less ofensive coming from someone who is blonde.

I love the beach. If I could live anywhere it would be at the beach, including the fog and cold that comes with it. Must be the English in me that enjoys the moisture in the air.

My favorite color is white. My favorite music is silence. Because I crave peace and solitude. I love to read.

I turned 40 last year, and I love it. I have been married for 11 years. I have 7 children, only 3 of which are living. This is my second marriage. My first marriage of 8 years to a Mexican Catholic Electrician in the Air Force ended because of his adultery.

I love my Bible and read it every day. I love to talk to my Lord in prayer. When I say I am praying for someone, it's because I am. I've read the Bible cover to cover every year, for decades.

I have a sarcastic sense of humor, but I don't go out of my way to make anyone feel stupid or bad about themselves, and I don't have respect for people who think that is funny.

I like to encourage people, because I know how much it's meant when someone encouraged me. I would rather forgive and move forward than hold a grudge. This has more to do with me being able to live a resentless life than anything else.

Lets see, my family background includes syrian, english, irish, and american indian, I was born in chicago, lived there till I was 15. My parents seperated when I was 6, my dad was murdered when I was 11. I married my childhood sweetheart at 16, had two boys by 18.
I love tacos, chineese, chocolate pudding and choclate pie, charred steak, mashed potatos with green beans, and mac and cheese. Pink roses, sunflowers, small dogs, and the color blue.
My mothers family is catholic, so I was raised with catholic ideas, but neither my mom or grandmother took religion seriously enought to go to church very often(we went on palm sunday each year).

 

I was an army brat -- even born in an army hospital -- so I'm kind of from "all over." I've been a "fully-dunked" Southern Baptist since age 9.

I'm a software engineer working on new product development in the field of artificial intelligence. I've also done embedded system development. Before that, I was a student of the environmental sciences, but I decided to change careers when I completed my Ph.D. coursework. The dissertation didn't scare me, I just realized I was happier designing things rathen than investigating things. Before that, I wanted to major in fine art.

Somewhere along the way, I also picked up machining and model-making.

I recent years, I've returned to art as a serious hobby. For the most part, I like wax sculpture, airbrushing, watercolor, and colored pencil. My work spans the spectrum from realism to extreme impressionism, but is almost always representational. Humans are my favorite subject.

In art, I favor Victorian and classical romanticism, both traditional and modern (think Pre-Raphaelite).

I read everything, but my favorites are: Victorian literature, Zen philosophy, theology, and general science. I like movies that require thinking. I like most styles of music, tending to favor individual pieces rather than genres.

I like Tex-Mex, Chinese, Thai, haute cuisine, anything that comes out of the ocean, watermellon, grapes, and tofu!

I'm fairly shy about myself until I get to know someone, but I'm friendly to strangers.

Someone once told me I was one of the calmest people they'd ever met. I guess that's a compliment?!

I think my mom's family is of Scottish descent..my dad's family, I have no clue. I'm a single college student.

I love all of the seasons. Each is so beautiful in it's own way. My favorite part of spring is the honeysuckle. Honeysuckle must be the scent of dreams. I love the lazy nights of summer. Many nights I spend with family and friends, sipping iced tea or coffee around my swimming pool. And Autumn is wonderful with bonfires and hayrides and fresh apples. Winter brings me inside and I am warmed through with gratitude for the blessing of a warm house and a caring family.

My two favorite vacation spots are the beach and the mountains. I love waking up early, and slipping to a secluded area of the beach to watch the sun rise. My heart is quieted and I am ready to meet with God. I like to see the mountains, rising over the earth like they are keeping watch over the valleys.

My biggest dream right now, outside of one day getting married and having children, is to be a writer. I love to write, and I want to write anything and everything to show my journey of faith, and maybe encourage others in theirs.

I love working with children. I especially like being able to see things through their eyes. It's almost as though I'm seeing it for the first time.

Can you tell I like to talk? Our biggest joke is that to get me to be quiet, you put me on a 7 seater air-plane, and I don't say a word.
Well...I hope you know me a little better now.

I'm 47 years old, married with one son. Husband is 49, son just turned 18, and also joined the BBoard, but hasn't had time to post anything yet.

I'm a homemaker, and sometimes sell on ebay for a little extra money, but it can be too time consuming.

I've never been any denomination other than Baptist. My family is also. I do have a long line of ancestors that were German Lutherans, and several of those were preachers, including my 4th g-grandfather who was born in 1760.

Wisdom Seeker, I thought I was the only one that preferred silence to music! Glad to read that you are that way also.

I love Mexican food, pepperoni pizza and of course, chocolate.

I am a dog person, but also like cats a lot. Have 4 large dogs, 3 mixed and 1 black lab, and one cat, and 4 rabbits. Feed about 5 stray dogs that are also large. We live in the country on about 20 acres, and I'm thinking it's almost time for another dog or two!

I love my Lord, and even though we've been through some rough times lately with the church thing, I know there's a purpose for it, and hopefully, we'll be stronger for it. I really don't like hearing or seeing people misuse Scripture for their own reasons, or misusing their authority, and leading people wrong.

This board here, is good for motivation in searching the Scriptures, and I've been trying to do more of that lately also.

I love old things, antiques, if you will, especially if they were from someone in the family. I'm a 'keepsake-aholic'. I love older folks too. They are a wealth of often over-looked knowledge and common sense.

I am a 45 year old sales rep. I travel the state of Alabama selling a product to septic tank contractors. Instead of using gravel for field lines I sell recycled polystyrene ( some people call ist styrofoam).
I have been married 23 years and we have 18 year old son who will be graduating from high School and attending college this fall.
I study Revival History. My three biggest interest is the Cane Ridge revival of Paris Kentucky , The New Hebredes revival of Scottland, and the Welch Revival.
I go by "Atestring" becauseI love to play the mandolin and there are 8 strings on a mandolin.
I am not ready for prime time but have played on stage twice. I listen to Bluegrass music as I travel the state of Alabama.
When we all get to heaven look for me I will be playing the Mandolin with Bill Monroe and we will be praising Jesus on our String instruments.

 

Sherrie, I have to say, that feeding the skunks is a new one to me! Don't think I've ever known anyone to do that, but I think it's great that you care about all God's creatures like that. I bet they appreciate their human friend, and look forward to the goodies you put out for them. I love all animals, and I'm not all that outgoing with people, so I spend a lot of time with the ones here. We have deer, wild hog, coyotes, wolves, wild turkeys, wild big cats of some kind, bobcats, raccoons, squirrels, and all kinds of birds. Of course all we can do is enjoy watching them usually, but sometimes, when we clean out the freezer my husband will put a big pile of stuff out back for the coyotes or whatever gets it first.

Wonderingone, this brought tears to my eyes. I know how you must miss many of the activities that you were once doing, but this really touched my heart.

Playing piano and organ is what I love to do, but I am not flexible enough to play for a gospel group. I have to basically play by music but I can improvise some.


Can you play the piano at all now?

Do you by chance have recordings of your group?

 

Wonderingone, I share the burden of both diabetes and strokes, and appreciate wot you must be going through.

Then, I look at others who also suffered through strokes and I bless the Lord that I can now talk, walk and feed myself. Like you, I can't play the organ, but still hammer away on a keyboard.....I let the bass play itself...marvellous instruments, these keyboards.

Betty, I must read the music also. I guess we don't know the half of wot others goe through, do we?

I haven't figured out how to let the bass play itself either. I guess I need to read the instruction book, you think?

I have a keyboard that I attached to the computer so that my grandchildren can take a course called "Teach Me Piano".

It is a really a neat program. Tells you when you hit a wrong note, incorrect rythmn, etc. I have problems with it because my left hand never seems to play the notes as written, only my right hand does. So it is always "honking" at me when I hit a wrong note.

 

Oh Betty, sounds like you have a goose indoors......

Both of my hands are parlyzed, so I just drop my hands on the keys when I do play...not something that would mean much to others, but I get some delight at it. The bass on my Yamaha can be set to play,,I guess it just chords...then one can add the different instruments to play along with it. My left hand is almost useless..I can't even hold tablewear with it. My last stroke, a year ago, did in that hand..strange though, it only affected the outside half of the hand. Seems the Lord has more to teach me with these strokes..

Cheers and keep at it. There is nothing like music in the soul. When I was in ministry and got upset about something, I went to the church at 2 in the morning, opened all the stops and let go.....one time I even left a speaker on which fed to an older woman next to the church. She was a shut-in and the church installed the speaker so she could get the church services.....Oboy.....she graciously did not say a word, but I did blush when I saw her.......
