I guess it depends on if you preach from notes or overhead Power Point.Many churches - including Evangelical are getting rid of the pulip.
Some just sit on a chair, others like to walk around, or ect.

It is also good for fat preachers. It helps cover the paunch. LOLIt used to be called the "sacred desk" by some preachers.
It symbolized the teacher's lectern, in which good instruction was given. Back in the day, every classroom in the upper levels had such a desk. So, it was naturally fit for the assembly to have one, too.
I like it because it is a handy storage place for the clutter left over from the previous service.
Ha! I preached from behind one of those more than once. That is what we call a church plant special.My pulpit of choice.
