Why are we missing it?

Just perusing the topics for discussion on this board, whether in theology discussions, Harry Potter, Politics, Social Issues (abortion), in so many threads, it seems we overlook a major important fact....the Spiritual Implications, Spiritual Warfare!

[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Why do we often overlook the unseen spiritual dimension in our discussions? Is it because we are so focused on looking at all things through our emotions, through our senses, through our flesh and sin nature that we overlook the eternal or spiritual?

Or is because we aren't receiving teaching in our Baptist churches about spiritual warfare?

My sword is drawn--and I defend the faith of the Lord Jesus with every verse I scan and preach and expound upon!! You're right!! As soldiers there's too much R & R going on!! Too much AWOL! I believe, too, that in a way we have "ranked" ourselves wrong!! We want to be Generals instead of GI Privates!!

As a military enthusiast--I read once where the news media interviewed "Front Line" troops in the European theatre of WW2--with the question--"Who would you like to see in the foxhole next to you??"--here's the answer 9 times out of 10--"Anyone above the rank of Captain!!" "I would love to see a Major or above come and help me fight!!" Then the Majors would occasionally visit the front--and at the first sound of small arms dischargeing---they "high tail it " back to the rear!!

There are too many "ranked" believers who are "high tailin' it" to where its safe!!

I, too, wish there would be more "chatter" here on the specific subjects you mention that are missing!! Too much talk, though on subjects like Tongues, and how deep was the water where Jesus was baptized--how much wine Jesus "chug-a-lugged" dumb stuff that I wouldn't flip a nickle at--I will do my best to bring out more subjects along the lines that seemingly interest folks like you and I!!

You forgot to mention the mind. Yes, it is all of those things and also the way we think in the modern Western world. We tend to be so rationally-minded and materialistic in our thinking that we can't accept situations that we cannot physically handle.

Yes. Baptists are usually very skittish about discussing spiritual warfare because all too often people go off the deep end and turn biblical teaching into superstition. So instead of taking the time to carefully correct false perceptions, Baptist leadership tends to ignore it. Baptists also tend be too "sophisticated" and don't want to appear to others to be uneducated or foolish since the world does not recognize the spiritual battle.

I've had the experience of hearing a Baptist preacher preach about spiritual warfare like they're a general on the front lines and then look at me like I was a two headed ostrich when I asked for advice when dealing with some spiritual attacks while praying for a friend who had come out of occultism.
