In my younger years, I went to a Baptist church because that's where my parents sent me or took me.

In later years, as an adult, I concluded that I needed to see if Baptist doctrine and practice could withstand close examination and challenge. It could, and I became a Baptist by conviction.

I concluded that Baptist doctrine and practice is similar to or the same as that taught in the New Testament.

Because Jesus was a Baptist

Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

We began to attend a Baptist church because the belief and practices most closely matched our own and of the churches in the area that matched our beliefs, this one was the closer one to our home. We do not attend because it's Baptist - it's not the name or affiliation that draws us (although it's a completely independent church with no affiliation to any Baptist group), but the beliefs and the people. We settled enough here that my husband became a pastor a few years back. :)

The Old Baptist Church is the truest Church I know of; and I love the saints; they're the best people I've ever known in this world.

Yup - that sounds like me.

I was not raised in a Christian home, so when I was saved, I explored many different denominations. The Baptist doctrines are the closest to the teachings of the Bible, IMO and according to my personal study of scripture.

When I lived in South Carolina with my mom and stepdad I attended a United Methodist church and that's where I came to faith in Christ. The people there loved me with the love of God and really reached out to me. However, I never formally joined the UMC. Because of a negative home environment, to put it nicely, I came to live with my grandparents here in Jacksonville, FL when I was 13. Almost my entire family here is SBC and my family has been a part of my church since my great-grandparents joined in 1957. After about a year, I was baptised and joined the church. In recent years, I studied doctrine a lot and found that Baptists are closest to the Bible.

I picked three...like the lotto...basically I was born into a strong Baptist family, then while attending college looked at some non-denom and other denominations. After really studying, praying, and searching I felt convicted that the Baptist doctrine expressed in the BFM was the closest thing to the NT available.

I also picked "other" because while I fully agree with the other two mentioned, I am specifically a Southern Baptist because of the genius of the Cooperative Program style of giving and missions work. :)

I also studied up on the doctrine and practices of the Baptists. My church is not the closest to my house, as I pas several different denominations and other Baptist churches to get there. Our church is where God told us to stay and that settled it.

What church I did attend as a child was Baptist, I was married in a Baptist church, and was saved and baptized in a Baptist church. None of that matters as I could have easily went to a different denom. The Baptists line up the closest to what I understand the bible to say.

I was raised in a cult home, but praise the LORD it didn’t stick.

Then at the age of 27, I was told the Gospel by Oliver B. Green, and trusted Christ, by way of the radio.

Later, I lead my wife to the Lord, and the people across the road, who admitted that they had been praying for us for years, invited us to their Church.
(It happened to be a Baptist Church!)

And is wasn’t until later, that I discovered that the Baptist(traditional Baptist), stick closer to the Bible than any other denomination.

Because we believe baptist is closest to biblical.
Other denominations to chose from here believe in sprinkling, baptizing babies, you have to speak in tounges to be saved, you can lose your salvation, and a long list on unbiblical teachings, if we were in one of those we'd be in a church of false teachings.

donnA, I'm going to start a a thread based on this post. It will be based on the question, do you believe churches such as donnA mentioned are false churches? Or are true churches which are wrong about a few things?
Let's don't derail this thread, but go to the other one to comment.

I was raised in a Baptist Church and for years did not attend any church but when I realized that GOD really did have a plan for me, HE led me to the Baptist Church. This is where I will worship till GOD lets me know HE has a different plan for me.
