Why did King Solomon have Adinijah put to death?

When I was listening to I Kings the other day, I heard from the dramatized audio Bible that King Solomon had Adinijah put to death for asking that King Solomon give him someone for a wife. But I did not understand why this was wrong in the eyes of King Solomon or in the eyes of God. I understand that the woman should have a choice, but I don't think what was going on in this passage had anything to do with that.

Can you explain this? Thank you.

Let’s see, just going from memory. Adinijah was his step brother. As a son of King David, he would have a claim to the throne. Additionally, the young woman had shared King David’s bed (to keep him warm in his old age). Had Adinijah married the young girl and she quickly became pregnant, it might boost his claim to the throne. Additionally, Adinijah didn’t ask Solomon, he asked Bathsheba (Solomons mother)

So essentially, Adinijah was attempting to make a move to challenge Solomon for the throne.

peace to you
