Why did Trump wait until

Several reasons.
1. 75% of the government was funded before the election. A shutdown then would have had unknown effects on the election.

2. It's only a "partial" shutdown.

3. Before the election, it was the democrats in the Senate that stopped wall funding. Now it's House democrats that refuse to fund the wall. It's easier to show the public the obstruction of democrats when they control the House than it is for the average American to understand democrat obstruction by using "cloture" rules in the Senate.

(And I believe that ever slow slowly and in spite of media bias. Trump is winning the public relations battle.)

Rich people oppose the wall. They want cheap labor. They have walls around their homes. The middle class wants cheap home repair. Even labor unions want cheap labor as they are angry that no one wants to join unions. Trump is on his own on this one. People along the border want the wall and the lower class wants the wall. Democrats are far removed from the bad effects of illegal immigration. Trump does not want us to be like Germany or France or the UK. The Dems think Europe is great.

First, I agree with Carpro.
I tend to go along with this: https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/01/trumps_shutdown_trap.html
because Trump would be able to actually get the debt under control without these useless government jobs which were allowed by Carter or Kennedy, not sure which, allowing the ‘government’ to unionize against their employer, us. Complete insanity. I have worked for the government, & can attest to the fact that the hardest work they do all day is showing up. They could shutter a large portion of the government & lose nothing. Think of all those wages, benefits, & retirements we are paying for. The Congress always protects itself with the best forever benefits, no Obamacare for them, no loss of paycheck during a shutdown for them.........what’s wrong with this picture?! Trump playing longball? Hope so.

Prediction?: I'm wondering and I believe the DNC will ask (force) Nancy Pelosi to step side or possibly step down from Speaker unless she makes a deal with Trump.

Certain anonymous sources are saying there are MANY underground rumblings among the younger and newer representatives that are very displeased with her total refusal to compromise with Trump especially when he is now hinting a Dreamer deal.

It is said that even Chuck is ready to cut a deal.

Nancy is the problem.

I don't see Pelosi resigning or even being asked to resign. Just like before, she controls the House with an iron hand. Her way or the highway. The newbies don't stand a chance.

Looking for a repeat performance in 2020 of the democrat disaster in the House she oversaw in 2010.

From what I read Pelosi controls the Dems campaign money supply and hence her power.

She is considered insane for her bloodlust support of abortion.

Her husband is very wealthy and they live in a huge mansion surrounded by high impenetrable walls.

Wrong - What Soros wants Soros gets!.

Hopefully he wants to get the dreamers without humiliating Nancy but IMO he will if necessary if she will not relent.

The 2020 presidential campaign momentum gained by adding 2 or more million Dreamer votes is well worth "the wall" to George.
