Why do Calvinists witness? Well, why not?

    First off, it is a matter of historical record that Calvinists do indeed witness. That should be beyond dispute to anyone who takes time to do proper research of missions from the 17th century to the present.

    In spite of this it is common for non-Calvinists to wonder why Calvinists witness. This, I think, is primarily because the questioner does not properly grasp Calvinist teachings. Of course this should not be a surprise because many self-proclaimed Calvinists disagree with one another on these matters.

    This post troubles me, though, because the most obvious answer to me is that we witness because God tells us too. As the linked post shows, this is seen by some as a "cop-out". Honestly, I do not understand this objection. Slaves are commanded to obey their masters "with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ". So, it goes without saying that we ought to obey Christ with fear and trembling. However, some still insist that this is not reason enough.

    Anyway, I was thinking about this today, and I wonder about something. This question is especially for non-Calvinists, although all may play. The question is, why did Jeremiah prophesy? He preached for over forty years, even though he knew that at the end of the day no one would listen to him and that his country and his city would be destroyed. So, why bother? What do you think? What kept Jeremiah going?

    Jeremiah and all the prophets where Calvinists.

    Yeah, I think that's in the book of Hezekiah too where John Calvin went back into Biblical times and shared his views with them.

    Actually there was a book they found in the Qumran caves named "J. Calvin" ... predates Isaiah...

    Jeremiah did believe in Total Depravity though..

    Jeremiah 13:23 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also you can do good who are accustomed to do evil.

    aaaw and that is the key reason to study calvin.

    TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN/ THE HOLY GOD

    In Calvinism we see the right picture

    we see Gods holyness...
    Mans need
    Man not knowing he is lost...
    God elects to share..
    We take Gods message to the unsaved.....
    The Holy Spirit works...salvation happens

    Without election...man would not have any change.

    God choose a nation..to give the law. the law shows mans sinful heart....and tells we should worship God.

    God choose a nation..thought which Christ would come. The only light the world has.

    God choose apostles to lunch the church....the church share with the world.

    God choose someone to share with me...now i need to GO TELL..and share with others.

    Election is God reaching out to the world. This is how salvations plan is shared.
