Why do most men prefer blonde women?

I just saw a documentary about the color blonde on TV and they also interviewed an evolutionary scientists and of course he offered theories why men are more attracted to blonde women and so on.
I ask myself why that is. Is it because people connect certain characterists to the hair color blonde? They also said that even in Egypt rich women would color their hair blonde. Why did they do this? Is it simply because blonde is a rather rare hair color and people simply like everything which is rare?
The evolutionist also said that most newborns have blonde hair which later on changes the color and that blonde hair is something like a key stimulus just like scheme of childlike characteristics.
Since many men are more attracted to blonde women and directly react to the blonde hair color the evolutionists have to find an explanation for this kind of behavior and I think according to them blonde symbolizes fertility. Another person said that blonde symbolizes primitivity and that blonde women also have a different facial expression and gesture. But if blonde symbolizes primitivity then this doesn't make much sense in my opinion. A blonde woman is much further away from an ape than a black haired women with dark skin for example. When you look at it through evolutionary glasses then blonde people should symbolize advancement and not primitivity.
Anyway, what do you think about this? Why is it that blonde hair is such a key stimulus?

XDX,

bmerr here. The word "evolutionary" is the key to the problem here. Neither white, blonde women, nor black, black haired women evolved from apes. Both decend from Adam and Eve, whatever color their skin was, the differences in skin and hair color, facial features, etc simply the result of interbreeding (not inbreeding) with those in close proximity.

One group goes here and settles, another goes somewhere else and settles, and as generations pass, certian physical characteristics become prevalent amongst each group.

Most people from Africa have similar physical characteristics, as do most from Asia, and Europe, etc.

In the end, regardless of differing physical characteristics, men and women are still men and women. None of us has developed extra appendages or three eyes. I suppose there may be a few isolated extras here and there, but those would be the exception to the rule, not to mention the fact that the "extras" are rarely if ever beneficial to the person.

Evolution holds no answers.

In Christ,

bmerr

What does this have to do with "other christian denominations"? Is there some theology behind it?

xdx,

I don't know anything about that documentary. I do know that people of every age, color, hair tone, shape, and size have their preferences.

All I can tell you is that speaking as a very dark-haired brunette that the blanket "scientific" generalization presented in that documentary you watched...

.....well, it just ain't true! ;)

OK, but the people in every society seems to prefer people with the lighter toned skin. Consider the Indian Caste system. Heard a dimwit on the radio claim it was started by the Brits. <G> It was probably started befeore Jesus was born.

I was a goner the first time I saw my green eyed, blonde haired(soon to be)wife. Maybe it has something to do with all of those 1950's beach blonde surf movies I watched.:love2:
There are some things science can't explain and it's probably better that way.
Keeps the mystery in the Romance.

I don't think most men prefer blonds, if they did you'd see more men married to blondes. I think it's personal preference. And you can't beleive anything based on evolution. blond

I actually preferred redheads in college.. At one point I was dating 5 redheads at one time. I loved redheads.... I loved their personality, and there was just something about the freckles.

That is until I fell in love with the woman I married... a brunette...with brown eyes. (she also has freckles) Go figure!

First mistake: Interviewing an evolutionary scientist.

Second mistake: Most men are NOT more attracted to blonde women - just some men are because that's their personal preference.

If what you state were the case, all women would be blonde. It's very easy to do these days. Only your hairdresser knows for sure...

I prefer to stick with my Auburn hair.

God knew what color hair would compliment my skin tone and who am I to think I know better than God and bleach my hair???

I don't know. I kinda prefer this brunette I married almost 30 years ago. I passed up a couple of blonds for her (and glad I did!).

In the documentary they also interviewed a guy who made a lot of money with his porn company and he said that most women in porn movies are blonde, too.
I ask myself what that is. I mean this whole cliche about blondes has to come from somewhere.
But I don't think that it can be denied that blonde somehow has a different effect on people. Somehow blonde hair looks cuter or maybe even more "innocent" or childlike. Or maybe it also looks purer. Angels are usually also shown with blonde hair. Even seen an angel with black hair? I haven't. Why is this? And why do angels wear white and not black? Could it be that light colors are simply seen as purer?

There was also an actress or a model which they interviewed which had black hair and she said while having black hair she had to be really careful when she crossed the street because no car would pay attention to her. Then she colored them blonde and then she said that when she now crosses the street the cars stop and the men stare at her. I wonder if that's really true.
Maybe blonde is simply something like a signal color?

Why is there felt some need for blonde jokes; that is, to put blondes down?

I have been married to a blonde, a brunette, a redhead, a woman with curly platinum hair and one with straight auburn. My preference? That madre would stay out of the hair color aisle at Walmart. I like her just the way she was meant to be. Problem is, I cannot, for the life of me, remember what her natural hair color is.....
