Why do Pro-Lifers Like Senator Joe Lieberman?

In a thread, LadyEagle quoted this from a news story:

"Sources familiar with her schedule said that she also had a private session with Jewish Senator Joe Lieberman."

Joe Lieberman is pro-choice and when his name is introduced into a discussion I don't recall any anti-Obama person criticizing him in this forum for being pro-choice.

Barack Obama is pro-choice. When his name is introduced into a discussion it seems like there is a quick reaction to criticize him in this forum for being pro-choice.

Is the bottom line that as long as one is not running for president then he/she will not be criticized in this forum for being pro-choice, but if one is running for president then he/she wil be criticized in this forum for being pro-choice?

Or does someone like Joe Lieberman get a pass on the abortion issue because he supports Senator McCain for president and/or he is a supporter of Israel?

Joe Lieberman is not making an issue of abortion. I would not want him on a national ticket. I would prefer that Connecticut be represented by a pro-life Senator. However, I know that there is about a 0% chance of that happening.

To me, a little bit conservative is better than flaming liberal.

Barack Obama is definitely making an issue on abortion.

From Senator Lieberman's website:

"On that most difficult and divisive question of abortion, I personally believe that Roe achieved a just balance of rights and reflected a societal consensus that has continued and deepened in our country for more than three decades." (http://lieberman.senate.gov/newsroom/release.cfm?id=250808)

and

"I rise today in opposition of The Child Custody Protection Act, S.403. This bill is not about reducing the numbers of abortions in America. S.403 is about politics played at the expense of young women in the United States. S.403 would make it a Federal crime for adults other than guardians to transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion This is not nearly as simple as it may sound. S.403 is another direct attack on the reproductive rights of women. It turns its back on young women who do not inform their parents about their decision to obtain an abortion even if they face threats of personal harm. S.403 would criminalize grandmothers, religious leaders, aunts and uncles, and doctors fighting for the health and well being of young women. This bill would take us back to the time before Roe vs. Wade where women did not have the right to control their own bodies and too often were forced to seek an abortion at any cost." (http://lieberman.senate.gov/newsroom/release.cfm?id=259700&&)

Abortion is certainly as much of an issue for Senator Lieberman, as reflected in his Senate career, as it is for Senator Obama.

Do you honestly think that Sen. Obama would EVER endorse a pro-life politician for president?

Lieberman is pro-choice. I would not vote for him. Nevertheless, I'd rather have him than Ned Lamont.

Does the enthusiastic endorsement by Senator Lieberman cause you to stop and consider just how strong Senator McCain's devotion to pushing the pro-life cause will be if he is elected president?

Sure, but I think Lieberman is endorsing him because of other issues. I think Lieberman cares more about the war than about abortion. That being said, I'd rather vote for someone who at least states opposition to abortion with a decent track record to back it up than for someone who will militantly support abortion on demand.

I think you make an excellent point. And I think the same can be said of Senator McCain, especially since he was apparently giving serious consideration to choosing Senator Lieberman as his VP candidate.

It will be interesting to read the inside story about this campaign next year when the books are written about it. I truly think that if he would not have been facing a rebellion by the GOP social conservatives that Senator McCain would have chosen Senator Lieberman as his running mate.

This is a non-issue, Ken, a stretch and a reach and much ado about nothing. The fact is, we have a pro-life ticket on the Republican side and a pro-death ticket on the Democratic side.

When you vote for Obama, you are voting for more abortion and giving a thumbs up approval to their death policy by your vote.

End of story.

You have a pro pre-natal death ticket on the Democratic side (pro-choice) and a pro post-natal death ticket on the Republic side (pro-war and anti-widespread availability of medical care)).

It's sad equating the death of war to the government sanctioned and supported murder of millions and millions of babies since 1973. BB, surely you can do better than that lame argument.

I wouldn't vote for any ticket that JL was on...
Because he is pro abortion.

But since I am in WV... He is not an option for me.
That is why I never say anything about him...
If I were in Conneticut... I would.

And BTW... God said..
Ecclesiastes 3:8
(8) a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

I have yet to see where God says there is a time for abortion.

To compare our military to the murderous scum that take babies lives by ripping their limbs off, is atrocious.. and very.... well, I can't say it here... I would be banned!

Pro abortion advocates will stand before God, with murder on their hands...
And if a person doesn't repent on this side of eternity for murder...
They may be standing at the Great White throne Judgment.. instead of the Judgment seat of Christ.

Pro Abortion advocates care more about dogs than they do humans... sickening!

Would any Proabortion advocate vote for Michael Vick if he could reduce the deficit, or stop the war, or stop global whining?

Just because you don't care about a subject, LE, doesn't make it a non-issue, a stretch, a reach, or much ado about nothing.

My personal belief is that McCain is moderately pro-life while Palin is staunchly so.

Hopefully, McCain's SCOTUS nominees will be conservative justices. I can't guarantee that they will be. After all, there is a stream in Republican tradition that doesn't tilt that way (Ford, Bush 1, etc.).

That being said, I KNOW Obama's justices will all be staunchly pro-choice.

Even if Senator McCain does, what do you think the chances of such justices being confirmed in the U.S. Senate with a 10 seat Democratic majority would be? I would think quite, quite low.

I wouldn't be sooooo sure about majorities in Congress. It just might tilt back if the Red States have any say. So that argument is fish-bait (read Barracuda!)
