Why does God want to use us?

Well, first of all, take a look at what God wants to use us FOR. We aren't involved in keeping the stars in their courses, nor in making chemicals react properly. Instead, we are instructed in how to better relate one to another, and how to help each other get closer to God.

So whatever "why" we come up with will be consistent with the limitations He has given Himself as to WHAT He asks us to do.

 

The Westminister Catechism said, "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever." He created us for His glory, and He gets glory when we serve Him faithfully out of a pure heart.

Rev. 4:11 says, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to
receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."

 

In short, God wants to use us because His children are the only ones that can share the glory of being redeemed.

According to Jesus' parables about the nobleman who journeyed to receive his kingdom, we are being prepared for higher office and greater responsibilities within His kingdom. Who knows how vast this kingdom will be, and what will need to be done in it?

Think about it...Does He REALLY need any of us? Could He not have delivered Israel outta Egypt w/o Moses?

 

Because it pleases Him.

Psalm 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

 

"to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us."

 

Yes, it pleases Him, but there is also a further reason. If we look at Jesus' two great commands, they are both to love --first God and then our neighbor.

We were created to love. God is love. We are created in His image. But we cannot love really without Him in us, for HE IS LOVE.

But love is also a commitment to care and to serve even at the expense of oneself. So God uses us to teach us to love. We serve. We care. We are learning to love and so to fulfill the reason for our creation, and it is this which blesses God (makes Him happy).

This also accomplishes something else -- we learn a little more about God's character. As He works through us, and as we learn to love and practice loving, we sometimes feel the frustration that comes when that caring and commitment is not responded to or not returned. We learn the patience of working and working with a recalcitrant child or a retarded adult. We learn to deal with broken bones and broken hearts. Not to mention broken minds and spirits.

God works through us to mature us, to teach us, to conform us to His image, and to help us understand more about Him. He never had to do it this way, but, for some reason, He actually loves us and wants the best for us!

It is one thing for a pool master to take a perfectly balanced cue and score perfectly on a perfectly level table with perfectly rounded balls.

It is another for a master to take an old branch and score perfectly on a torn and out-of-level table with chipped balls.

That's what God does with us. His skill is past our comprehension.

 

Why does God want to use us? Doesn't it all point to His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ? I believe it’s according to His purpose, Romans 8:28, ”And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

The following verse would seem to apply to we Christians today. ”That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12. That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.” Ephesians 1:10-12. I believe His Word teaches we in the Church, the Body of Christ, are used here for “honing and tempering” for what is His eternal purpose, i.e. the heavens and the earth. Will we be “angels”? A third is missing, and evidently God is not planning to create anymore. Christian faith, ituttut

 

Of course.

We should be doing those things which please Him.

1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Also, of course, love has several aspects to it...

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: ...

God not only wants to use us but that is His method he chose for the propagation of the gospel.

When God uses us we are humbled and blessed at the same time.
