Why Does Media Ignore Major Events?

    There is a closed topic on this subject, but most of the posts did not refer to the original post, the lack of news coverage of the Pro American Rallies that have been taking place all over America????

    There were 10,000 in attendance in Houston alone.

    Plenty of coverage of the Anti War, Anti Bush demonstrations!!! Almost completely ignore the other, much larger Pro American Rallies!

    Someone did a survey of the college students who participated in the Anti demonstrations, and in every university, the percentage demonstrating was less than 10% of the students.

    Would you have guessed that from the coverage you see??? You would think we were back at the Kent State level from the Vietnam war.

    What motive would cause almost all of the Media to ignore one side of significant happenings???

    Whether one agrees with the war or not, we are in serious trouble when a majority of Americans do not hear all the significant news.

    There needs to be some serious discussion of why this happens and how the public can do something about it!

    I can only speak for the local news media (Greater Los Angeles Area). They seem to do a good job of covering the local pro- and anti- war demonstrations. I don't feel one is being covered more than the other.

    Same goes with my local press (Orange County).

    But I also know that LA/OC is not the entire country. (Just the part with the highest real estate prices ;) )

    That's a good question. I've not seen an inbalance in the coverage either. So, I can't really comment on something that I haven't really seen.

    John, Why is that? The real estate prices. Is it the good climate? The abundance of jobs? The quality of the houses? The theme parks? It has got to be the proximaty to the ocean. Most Californias aren't natives, they are imports from other places. Everyone wants to live in California. It must be supply and demand that drives the prices so high.

    Yep, It comes down to supply and demand. There are more people wanting houses that there are houses. Now, when I tell people tha, in 2002, I purchased real estate for 100,000 in Orange County, they don't believe me. Even when I tell them it's only about 800 sq ft, they don't believe me. But when I tell them that it's now worth 50,000 more than when I bought it, they'll believe that.

    And yes, I love the beaches, the mountains, the theme parks, the 60 degree winters and 80 degree summers, oh yeah, and World Series winning baseball teams with $12 ballpark admission!!

    PS - When are you and your hubby gonna come over and use my pool?

    Maybe it's just a Houston thing. I have noticed a slant toward the anti-war demonstrations, too. Also, I didn't even know about the pro-America rally until the news reported on it, for about 20 seconds, the evening after it was over. They spent probably about 10 times as long on the anti-war, anti-Bush rallies.

    If I'd have known about the pro-America rally, I would have gone. Even after they reported, I never would have guessed there were that many people. The news made it seem like a couple hundred.

    I guess we need to face it; anti-war protestors are big news. We, who are for war, are more apt to watch those against it, so we can argue with them thru the TV. People, as a whole, will tun into negative press faster than they will to positive events.

    The answer is simple - the major media has a liberal bias - just ask any Conservative! :D
