Why does this happen

Years ago when I was a teenager I visited the fighting fundamentalist forums often. I see the same thing here, as well as many other forums of this nature.

WHY DOES IT ALWAYS TURN TO ARGUMENTS ABOUT CALVINISM?

Why do birds sing so gay?
And lovers await the break of the day
Why do they fall in love?
Why does the rain fall from up above?
Why do fools fall in love?
Why do they fall in love?

While C/A is a huge argument, I don't see it as the biggie around here. The biggie around here seems to be alcohol. Those debates rage for pages and pages (including a whopping 45-page thread not that long ago) around here.

As long as there are Baptists...there will be debates.
And on the Baptist Board, with a current 'recorded' 42,849 posts, anybody wanna' hazard a guess who might be the biggest contributor? (I believe the #2 poster, BTW, has a current recorded 26,666 posts, meaning I Am Blessed 17 has over 50% more posts than any other individual, here, averaging well over 20 posts per day on the BB. The #2 poster has averaged fewer than half that, FTR, and been on the Baptist Board far longer.) :D

BTW, check out this, as to what Baptists will argue about:

And, welcome to the Baptist Board, AndrewG.

Soteriology is a foundational doctrine.
It will impact all other doctrines.

I think that is why everything comes up to be a C/A debate or at least has elements of that in it.

I think that it's because we used to argue about these issues in Bible college and seminary. This forum is about as close as we can get to those old days, so we debate.

Now why it sometimes becomes mean is because we are fallen beings.

Dont get me wrong, Ididnt say it wasnt important. Just strange how you dont hear much about it in real life, but it seems to dominate the forums over other subjects.
Just an observation, hadnt been on any religious forums in over a couple years.

Truthfully, the C/A debates do get testy at times, but seems in the end, by most, there is respect for both sides. The C/A debates bring about more Bible study than almost any other subject.

Absolutely.
It is a stimulant for further study which is always a good thing.

And though I would never be a good fit at Brother Bob's church as a member, I would like to think that we would be very freindly if we ever met in person.

I think this would be the case for many of us here. I have a fondness for many that I don't agree with on quite a few issues :D

Did I spell it wrong again?
It isn't in my spell check dictionary.
:(

Don't feel bad, I never get it right... that's why I just us "A".

One reason I think we debate it more online than in person, is in real life there are not that many that want to think that deep.

Online debates stimulates deeper thinking.

Also, I don't care to be contrary much in person.
This is a debate forum. THat is the point of being here.
IF you don't expect your views to be challenged, then don't log on or stay in the fellowship forums.

What I don't like is when your views aren't challeneged, you just get mudslinging.

That is not edifying for anyone.
