A friend wrote and shared the following. This was as sad as it was appalling!
I thought I'd tell you that I finally made it through this morning at 8:00 AM. As you know, I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes), and my income base is at the low end of $45,000.00-55,000.00 range.
Because the bronze package was less than I felt I needed, especially the 40% deduction, I chose the Tier-2 "Silver Plan."
The representative informed me that my monthly premiums would be $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! The deductable and monthly payment does not seem like a "free medical program" or "an affordable one!"
However, I said, "Sign me up!" But, as the day progressed, I continued to dwell on the numbers and taking pen to paper, I did the math and there is NO POSSIBLE way that I could afford this, so I called back, and after an hour of wait time, I told them I was "opting-out" and chose to continue along with no insurance.
My day, and first-time, experience with Obamacre ended with a certified email that came to my PC before 5:00 P.M. Upon opening the email, I was aghast to read that by opting-out, I faced a fine $4,037.00; and failure to pay the fine would result in a lien attached to my yearly income tax return.
However, if that wasn't enough, the letter went on to tell me that the "REPERCUSSIONS PORTION" for "non-payment" of yearly fines would be:
1) Your drivers license would be suspended until paid, and,
2) If you go 24 consecutive months with "Non-Payment" and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You are required to give your bank information so that they, the IRS can "Automatically withdraw" your "penalties" weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is "Free" or even "Affordable."
Paul, what is going on in America? This is more like the tax police, which makes sense out of the reasons for the recent arming and purchase of ammunition by Homeland Security, IRS and other domestic departments? Could there be a war coming? I pray not! Nevertheless, if not having Obamacare means taking away my license, and attaching a lien on my home, well; I'm ready to defend what I paid for from years of hard work!
