Oh boy - I am a topical preacher!
I rarely have a two part message!
I have sat under pastors who do that - .......
Hope this does not get me banned from BB!

Cannot imagine sitting under regular dose of topical preaching. Get the wanderings and whims of a preacher, holiday platitudes, felt-need pop psychology, missing bulk of the Bible instead of methodical exposition, verse by verse. book by book of God's Word. A text (topic) without context is just a pretext.

Topical or word study are EXCELLENT for Bible study (on a topic) in Sunday School or personal devotion. Learn information or lessons.

For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little -

I used to call them 20 minute sermonettes..lol

Although a topical teaching every now and then is not a bad thing

But I prefer going through a book and preaching it from beginning to end

You can exposit a topic, but I have heard topical sermons that were not and some were just spiritual talks with a verse thrown in. Talk may have been good, but had little to do with, if anything with the scripture.
