Why do churches when building a new building -- often do not want windows.

I think it is great to have windows - as the congregation is singing -
I want those nearby to hear us
We have nothing to hide

Never noticed it. I thought most churches use the “stained glass” designs.

Peace to you

If you look at most schools, they follow the same model. Big doors, few/no windows, skylights for natural indirect lighting with no distractions of people/noise/traffic to draw attention from the focus - teaching/preaching. AND security, since that is a HUGE issue facing churches today, whether in the inner city or suburbia. Lots of valuables in the building to be locked in. Trouble can be locked out with little egress and a few personal.

So, I can see NOT having expensive stained-glass and insecure facilities.

That said, I am a neo-platonist at heart and would miss the high gothic arches and soft color-laden light wafting from above

The church I pastored had no windows in the sanctuary, but we did have a clock on the back wall.

One Sunday, just after daylights savings time, the clock had not been set back, I had just started preaching when I noticed a ten year old boy pointing to his wrist and then pointing to the clock on the back wall. He did it several times, seeming to be upset I was keeping him later than usual.

It became a distraction, so I explained the clock had not yet been set back. After the service, I removed the clock.

The ten year was my son.

peace to you
