Why not have a song or 2 of Contemporary Christian Music in A.M. Worship?

I was sitting in church this past Sunday, & began to wonder why can't churches play 1 or 2 contemporary Christian songs in the a.m. worship service? I'm meaning like praise songs (ex: Lord I Lift Your Name on High, Heart of Worship, Light of the World, Come Now is the Time to Worship, or Ready & Willing.) I don't want to make anybody upset, but just curious. It might actually get more teenager participation, & so on.

    WE do..

    Our Choir is awesome!!!
They can sing anything from Hymns to CCM and do justice to it all. last week they sung "God of Wonders" and "Word of God Speak"

I too believe in blending in CCM with hymns.

I play the guitar and arranged "How great thou art" with "above all" they go good together.

    CG,

    Many churches do.

Ours has a contemporary service in which everything is done with a band. We do the songs you mentioned, plus some others, and some contemporary hymn arrangements.

We also do a traditional service, utilizing mostly hymns.

In addition, we have a worship service during the week for students that is very cutting edge.

God's best to you and your church

Hey, thank you all for your responses. Now I have another question. How do you present something like this to your church? How do you get your church to start something like this? Don't get me wrong, I love traditional hymn songs.

Talk to your pastor. Find out his views on worship, what he thinks is appropriate, etc. Be sure and share with him in the spirit you did here...that you aren't asking to "throw out" the great hymns of the faith, and that you'd love to see more of the younger set participate.

One other question for you: you mentioned AM service. For many churches, that are interested in trying something new, it is more easily accomplished in an evening service. How would that sound? If your pastor (or worship leader, or both) is/are interested, it might be less problematic for him to do it then anyway.

Are there some of you student types that would be willing to lead or play for those songs? If you and some of your gang could lead, it might help get some of that going.

Do all of this in prayer, and approach these things in a spirit of humility and servanthood. I must be honest...many churches have had problems with "wars about worship." But often times, people forget about their responsibility to show love and humility toward their fellow Christians. Many times, the music ain't the problem--it's the attitudes. Sounds like you have a good start in that area.

Finally, be patient. There might be some (or even a lot) of folks in your church that have done worship a certain way for a very long time...for some folks, any change is tough to handle. Even good changes sometimes take a little while.

God bless you and your church!

    Hey rbell,
Thank ya, never thought of p.m. service. Sounds like a good way to approach the topic. My church is one of those churches that are stuck on one specific thing. Meaning this is the way it has been & will continue to be. Not all that open to CHANGE! I know that whatever happens it's God plan though.

Blended is the way to go in my mind... however, understand that not all churches can or will respond to newer songs. Remember, the church is made up of people, and all people have preferences. I would advise you to pray, be careful how you approach the subject with your pastor and worship leader, and above all, do what you do in love. God will sort out the details, if it's His will for this move in a different direction.

    In His Grip,
