And, many years ago, at 17, I swore an Oath to defend the US Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. That Oath was not rescinded when I left the Military.

It would be interesting if you backed up your statement with a list of "left wing" politicians who began wars. NC, I do believe your opinion is incorrect.
I'll list wars since the Spanish American War. Let's see:
Spanish American War .... William McKinley was president. Not sure that he is considered left wing ... not sure what left wing might have meant in 1898.
World War I ... was Wilson left wing? Actually he didn't start the war.
World War II ... FDR did not start the war.
Korean War ... don't believe Truman is considered left wing.
Vietnam War ... Kennedy is considered by many as left wing.
Bay of Pigs ... Kennedy again. Huge mistake and he realized this after it was too late.
Grenada ... I do not believe anyone considers Ronald Regan a left winger.
U.S. Invasion of Panama ... Bush, Sr. is not considered left wing.
Persian Gulf War ... Bush, Sr. is not considered left wing.
Intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina ... I don't believe you can rationally say that Clinton started this war. It was a NATO effort and as a partner in NATO we abided to our treaty.
Invasion of Afghanistan ... I doubt anyone considers Bush left wing.
Invasion of Iraq ... again Bush is not left wing.
It appears to me that almost all the wars that were pre-emptive on the part of the US, except the Bay of Pigs and Vietnam, were begun by right winters. NC, I believe your opinion is incorrect.
It seems to me that many Christians who say they are right wingers follow the world view on military action and not the view Christ preached.
Both were wars the US fought in. It depends on your list.
What did "left wing" mean when Wilson was in office. I doubt either of us know.
The pre-emptive wars of the US were, except for Vietnam and the Bay of Pigs, started by right wingers. So the statement saying that wars are usually started by left wingers is incorrect. I do not consider wars before the Bay of Pigs as begun by the US. Do you?
I started the list simply to show the history of wars the US has fought in since the Spanish American war. I guess you did not see my comment on preemptive wars. That is a recent development in US history IMHO.

No, we do know... Wilson was the darling innovator of modern left wing policy. What of Johnson's issues with running up Viet Nam? He took what was a smallish action and made it something else entirely.
Much like what Obama is doing in Afghanistan.

Well Crabtown, of course we are not going to agree much on this one. I am sure our definitions of “War” and “Right” and “Left” wing are all far apart. Anyway, here is my opinion and my list for what they are worth.
First off, as I have stated over and over again on this forum anyone who thinks either of the George Bushes were right wing needs to learn what conservatism is all about. W was of course much further left than his dad was but to call either of them conservative or right wing requires a new definition of the term. Perhaps they were not extreme left wingers like our current CINC, but there is no way I would call them right wing.
Panama, Grenada, and even Bosnia, I would not consider wars. I would argue the first Persian Gulf War was not either. We did our thing and came home, we did not stick around like we this time in Iraq. My list of Wars would include:
The current War on Terror – George W. Bush, not right wing, but I will allow moderate instead of left wing.
Vietnam – Kennedy – definitely left wing, ended by right wing Nixon by the way.
Korea – Truman, yea I would call him left wing, he supported most of FDR’s march to socialism.
WWII – Roosevelt, ok FDR might not have started the war, but he was the US leader, and yes he was pretty extreme left wing, his expansion of government makes him the our most left wing president since Lincoln, at least IMHO.
WW I – Like WWII this was a world wide conflict, but we could have stayed out of it a lot easier than WWII. Wilson was elected to his second term basically on the promise that he would keep us out, and then he did a major flip flop. Let’s see he was leader of the progressive movement and president of Princeton University before being elected, He was responsible for the Federal Reserve Act and his Revenue Act of 1913 gave us our modern income tax. And don’t forget his “league of nations” that gave us our first glimpse of the United Nations. I would call him extremely left wing.
Spanish American War- This was a natural end for the Monroe doctrine. William McKinley was president and was mainly motivated by the brutal Spanish regime in Cuba. This truly was a war to free the Cuban people from an oppressive government and it was over in 3 months. I would call it a war because we kept the territory won. As far as right or left wing, McKinley was pro business and held to the gold standard. He certainly was not left wing. You might have me on this one. Of course the war was a tremendous victory and was over quick.
Civil War- Got to give Lincoln the credit for this one and his end to State soverenty has to make him extremely left wing.
Mexican War- This one happened under democratic president James Polk. I would have to give Polk credit for being right wing. He promised to serve only one term and not run for re election, and he kept that promise. He reduced taxes and expanded the country (Modern states of Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Utah, California, Nevada and New Mexico plus parts of others). A pretty right wing guy. Oh, his war was also over quickly and was a great victory for our Nation.
War of 1812 – This one came under President James Madison, and yes he really started it. The author of our constitution, he opposed the bill of rights but definitely sought to expand the United States through the Louisiana Purchase and the war of 1812. I don’t know if we make him right or left wing. He did try to limit the power of the federal government, but he also established a national bank, increased taxes and expanded the military budget. Madison also had a nice little “war on terror” in his day. The 2nd Barbary War in 1815 saw us at war with pirates in modern Libya and the end of the United States practice of paying tribute to pirate states. That quick little action was a decisive win for the United States.
Revolutionary War- How do you even decide who was in charge and what “wing” they were for this one? I think all sides of the political spectrum were well represented in our leadership. You could define conservatives as those who wanted to maintain things the way they were (British Colony) and progressives as those who wanted change (New Country), but that really stretches our modern definition of those terms as viewed politically.
So there you go, 10 conflicts in our nation’s history I would call wars. Of course I skipped lots of military actions I would say were less than wars. I would say two right wingers (Polk and McKinley) five left wingers (Lincoln, Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy) and three I just don’t know how to classify (W, Madison, and our glorious revolution). Well, I would call W. left wing, but I know you won’t agree with me on that one Crabtown so we will leave him in the middle.
So I see left wingers leading right wingers 5 to 2.
As far as your comment about Christians not following Christ’s view on military action I would remind you that Christ said that he brought not peace, but a sword (Matt 10:34). In Luke 22:36 he advised any of his followers who did not have a sword that it was more important than their clothing. Jesus died a violent death to secure our salvation, but never forget that the Lamb of God will return as the Lion of Judah and will defeat those who oppose him with military force. God had advocated and even commanded military action many times over the centuries, and he can still do it today. I am not saying that all war is ordained by God by any means, but he certainly is no pacifist.

I think it is because 'right wing' Christian leaders have so often been 'hawkish.'
When GW beat the drums for war in Iraq, many leading Christians jumpped on the bandwagon. e.g. Richard Land, D. James Kennedy, Charles Stanley, John MacArthur, etc.
The problem is more idolatry than brain wiring. Many confuse patriotism with Christianity.
"Pro-war" to some means anyone that believes in fighting for freedom or the right to exist.
They'd rather someone else do their fighting for them, but they cherish the right to complain about the freedoms the warriors provide them.
Cowardly hypocrites.
