..........How can conservative, traditional, Bible believing, born-again Christians seriously consider an Obama candidacy? I believe Harry R. Jackson Jr. and Tony Perkins discovered the answer in the Old Testament book of Ezekiel. On page 44 of their new book Personal Faith, Public Policy Jackson and Perkins say, “The Lord figuratively referred to the cultural problems of Ezekiel’s day as breaches in the wall.” Ezekiel 13:4-5 says, “Your prophets, Israel, are like jackals among ruins. You did not go up to the gaps or restore the wall around the house of Israel so that it might stand in battle on the day of the Lord.” In 586 B.C., the day of the Lord arrived for Judah when Jerusalem fell and the Babylonians took the Jews into captivity. The prophets of God had become like jackals wandering among the ruins of a once great culture while the spiritual gaps in the walls continued to widen. When the destruction of the Jewish culture came, the Watchmen on the wall of Ezekiel 33 had long since abandoned their post and the spiritual gaps opened up by the lack of a true prophetic voice allowed the enemy to completely ransack the city. The people of God became a people in bondage to their own refusal to see beyond the deception of the coming calamity........

I voted for 'Bama because I "believe in" the story about Joseph in Egypt. When hard times came the working people sold their real assets to the government for enough food to stay alive and the government ended up owning all the land that the priests didn't own.

And it amazes me that after seeing what the welfare system did to the Black family in America the first real Black candidate for President wants to expand the system of entitlements.

As a politician, he is only giving people what they demand. Unfortunately, we have cultivated an attitude of dependence on government for everything in our lives for so many people.

No, is not giving them want they are demanding, he is promising them what they want, so he can get elected.

I still stand firmly on this principle that has guided me 44-years as an adult in the USofA:

I am against all
Federal Government entitlements
save for those Federal Government
entitlements to which I am entitled.

BTW, I'm not entitled to any form of Federal Government entitlement for Big Business (so called 'Corporate Welfare).

Ed,
I think what has happened is that we have confused entitlement with a give-a-way.

For example, a solider who has served 20 years active duty is entitled to a retirement check.

A teen mother who runs away from home and is given section 8 (housing) food stamps, WIC, medicad, ect is being given a give-a-way. She has done nothing to deserve that free money.

I don't have a problem with reasonable entitlements, its the unnecessary give-a-ways we need to end!

PS, the outrageous retirement benefits congress gets needs to end. Did you realize that congress is eligible for retirement after serving only 5 years!
I served 15 years in the active Army and receive no retirement. Maybe congress should come under the military retirement system!

Maybe congress should come under the military retirement system!

As I understand it, the ones serving in congress (reps & sen.) were ORIGINALLY expected to be average Joes who served out of a desire to serve their country; no full time job OR retirement.

Making this service a career is what ( part anyway) got us into this screwed-up fiasco we now call a government.

Our situation today is living proof of the old saying that -- "POWER CORRUPTS; ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY"

Did you hear the latest proposal for our 401Ks? BO want's to take all 401ks and incorporate them into the Social Security system. Wow, what a novel idea, take what a person earns and spread it around into a bankrupt government system. Then give it to those who haven't worked a day in their lives when they retire.

Rev. Mitchell, Good thread!

I live in a predominatenly black neighborhood, and we have a lot of dedicated pentecostals around here. They are all supporting Obama. It's sad, because Obama's economic policy may very well help them, and may even be better for the country, but they don't seem to understand that Obama will apoint liberal judges who are moving this country toward being like a secularized Europe. They have no clue about free speech laws that Democrats have been trying to impose, or about such ghastly decisions as Proposition 8 in California.

They just know that they want their sons and daughters to be able to go to college. They want health care, so they don't live with the instability of knowing if they need an operation, they will never be able to get it. And I sympathize with them and their support for Obama. He's a good looking, black man. He is an inspiration to the black people as a whole. He has a tinge of that old, powerful black rhetoric so evident in Martin Luther King and other great black speakers. But at the end of the day, they are unintentionally selling out this country for a mess of pottage. Very sad. :(

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT : OOPS!

On my last post I said proposition 8 was ghastly... Sorry about that. I just woke up a little while ago. It turns out that proposition 8 was the proposition in California considering gay marriage. Proposition 8 is a good thing! It's also been known as the marriage amendment, and you probably have heard a lot of talk about it on the radio. So sorry for calling it ghastly, lol.

The law that I should have called ghastly was sb777. This was a law that was passed in California and will seek to make California public schools 'non-discriminatory'. That sounds harmless enough, but when they mean non-discriminatory they mean something much different than what you and I may think they mean.

For example, some of the 'discriminatory practices' that could be eliminated are as follows :

* Instruction that portrays marriage between man and wife only
* Instruction that indicates people are born completely male or completely female
* Instruction that omits homosexual, bisexual or transsexual historical figures
* Sex education and assemblies that omit hormone injections and sex changes as options
* Homecoming king and queen contests that stipulate kings must be boys and queens must be girls
* Facilities where biological boys must use the boys’ bathroom and biological girls must use the girls’ bathroom

It is not strange! Simply recall that Marxists want to enslave everyone except themselves! If democrats get a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and Obama is elected America will become a third world country, the shortest lived superpower in history. The liberal left have been working for years to accomplish this. For some reason they are ashamed of the success of this country.

I don't know that being a "Superpower" is a good thing. The ability to defend ourselves against all that would overthrow the Constitution foreign and domestic should be our goal. Not a world dominating force. We got caught into this trap by WWII. Granted we must remain strong because of the widening nuclear ability of many nations (many of whom are our enemies) but to be the worlds iron fisted police force has got to stop. Obama will be the same promoter of this trend of our nation's leadership.

My secondary concern about him is what technology will he be giving away to the Arab countries that have been giving $'s to his campaign. Remember how Mr Clinton gave missile technology to Communist China because his campaign $'s came from them? Don't you think for one minute that Obama is not going to return favors. Tony Rezko, anyone?

BTB, my primary concern over him is the infanticide and abortion issue.

An unsubstantiated smear. It is sad that Christians are engaging in blatant dishonesty in this campaign.
