Why wear a cape?

What do you mean by "cape"? I wore a cape!!!!

Capes should come back into fashion.....they are fabulous, particularly if you can cackle and swirl the thing and THEN disappear in a POUF of smoke!!!!:smilewinkgrin:

Had one in the early days of my nursing career....we were not allowed to wear cardigans when at work as we needed to be able to wash up to our elbows. Later, I wore a woolen sleeveless vest when at work. To this day I have a habit of pushing my sleeves up to the elbow when working.

 

When I turned in my M-16 for the last time, I asked my Mother to make me a cape so I could continue to serve.

Are they? Englishmen wore them when off to the opera in Victorian/Edwardian times.

In the Regency period, gentlemen wore capes as fashion items, the more dandified the gent the more capes he wore on a great coat.

Cardinals still wear capes on occasion in the RCC.

All the best villains wear them. Heroes yes, but they also wear their underpants on the outside....which is just a tad suspicious I think:laugh::laugh:

 

Not too suspicious when you consider they had to change quickly in the confined space of a phone booth. Oh, remind me to add phone booth to the Obsolete thread.

The word hero is overused in our language much like the word awesome. Our God is awesome. Purple hair is not. Ball players might come up with a game winning play. It is neither awesome or heroic. It is just a game.

Not all service members are heroes either. I spent six years in the Army and got more medals than you can shake a stick at for piloting a desk. Never went to the Land of Bad Things. Never saw the Elephant. Nothing heroic in the least.

There are always that special few who earned the title of hero. I've met a handful over the years and one thing stood out. The ones I've met didn't think of themselves as heroes - just grunts doing their job.

Ain't it great the good old days are long gone.... One of my dearest friends is an opera buff and he goes all over New Zealand and to Australia to do so. I think he would actually adore wearing a cape, bu he is a working man and is able to do so and often takes his aged mother with him:thumbsup:

Not much has changed eh.....the 1% are now called Corporation Bosses or somesuch....
