Will GOP pull plug on Granny or War?

WASHINGTON - With prospects of a Republican takeover of Congress, Libertarian Party (LP) Chair Mark Hinkle posed this question: "In order to balance the budget, where will the GOP pull the plug first: on Granny, or on foreign wars?"

Hinkle continued, "Of course, Republicans may have no serious intention of cutting federal deficits or spending, and their complaints about 'out-of-control spending' might be hypocrisy."

Over 60% of federal spending is in three areas: Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and the military. It would be impossible to eliminate the federal deficit without cutting entitlements or military spending, such as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

...

Benedict continued, "Only Libertarians recognize that we can't have it all for much longer. The longer Republicans and Democrats flush money down the toilet in Iraq and Afghanistan, the sooner the government will have to cut benefits for Granny. Of course, Congress may never have the courage to pass legislation to cut entitlements. In that scenario, Granny will eventually start experiencing 'rolling blackouts,' or perhaps a total system collapse.

"Libertarians stand ready to cut spending across the board. Perhaps the question Granny needs to answer is, 'Which do you love more: your Social Security check, or foreign wars?'"

I tend to believe along the lines of the "hypocrisy" statement....

Ah, yes...KenH is back, and its his "I hate Republicans" month.

Unfortunately, this cycle always seems to be around election time. Imagine that.

He'll dislike the Democrats 6 months after he helps get them in office.

Amazing how well-meaning political operatives seem to do this over and over again...

I know that they're trying to get the conservatives to step up to the plate and adopt their views, but in the mean time it just works in favor of the liberals, who are for the most part united in their efforts to overthrow the America we know and love.

Libertarians can stand ready to do whatever they want.....and they'll get tired of standing. They won't ever hold a majority and be able to do anything. You might as well talk about the toy soliders in your kid's toy box standing ready, because it amounts to the same thing.

What's the problem?

Just print more money!

That is exactly what the Dems are doing.

As they escalate their "good war" in Afghanistan - they are promising $250 checks to seniors on social security - so they can get re-elected in Nov.

The Democrats don't make claims to support limited government and then fail to actually use their positions of power to do so. The Republican Party has done so. To expect the GOP to follow through the next time is to be like Charlie Brown expecting Lucy to not remove the football the next time.

>>"wars in Iraq"

>Its over, haven't yall got the word

Tell it to the new corpses.

Anyone else remember the sales pitch that the oil we got from Iraq would pay for the war? <G>

Will GOP pull plug on Granny or War?

This title put a picture in my mind of the Beverly Hillbillies, when Granny donned her Confederate uniform and rebel flag and went to war against "General Grant," a drunk actor, and the producer's cousin, in a movie.

The people I know in other countries are finding articles about the USA 'waging economic war' on them. Seems the USA is expanding it's public debt as well as encouraging the personal debt of it's citizens at un-presedented rates. BTW, you do know that most 'money' is created not on paper, but on plastic. When I go get a mortgate for a new house, or 'borrow' money for my big ol' SUV the financial instutition and I are making NEW MONEY that did not exist before.

I understand Ed, plastic, paper, wood fiber, cloth fiber, thin air, it does not matter as long as it isn't gold or silver - we won't have to "pay the piper" - all the international owners of our TBills will get fleeced when they want their $$$ back.

Why do you all think that none of this new money is getting into the consumer market?

My presumption is: Corporate, Bank and Wall Street Bailouts, Golden parachutes, Louisiana Purchase, Lobby and Special Interest groups, Pork expenditures, etc... drain it dry before it every gets down to "we the people".

A New and "Changed" approach to Trickle Down economics.

Well Ken has a good point. The republicans we voted out in 2008 did nothing to help our nation. They were not as bad as the open socialists we have now, but they did not good either.

We are about to elect a group of Republicans to power like we did in 1994. And they will probably abandon all their promises, fail to repeal Obamacare, fail to balance any budget, continue to increase our domestic and foreign spending and basically continue on the same road we are on now, perhaps at a slightly slower pace. Then in 2012 we will be so fed up with them (again) that we will re elect Obama and the current crowd.

We continue to swing back and forth between bad and really bad with no hope of anyone being elected that would actually make things better.

Yeah but the real trick is to keep doing it forever or at least until anyone left with a nickel in his/her pocket hands it over to money makers.
