We won't know untill we hear the announcement, with Roberts all the media was watching some other possible nominee, then Bush annouced Roberts. Then we got Miers who no one knew anything about. I would still like to see Janic Rodgers Brown, but we will just have to wait and see.

Honestly I had never heard of Alito untill this thread, so I can't really answer your question. If he is a good strong pro-life conservative constitutionalist, who doesn't believe the constitution is a "living document" then I will support him as well.

I noticed it too but didn’t go as far as JGrubbs to connect a person. I guess I read his post to fast. It is a bit strange that a cult is advertising on our board. Somebody make it stop!

 

I was not attempting to blame Joseph for the ad, just noticed that it was there on the threads he was posting on, Google Ad words are keyword and category based ads, so if the Webmaster selected Christian ads, then it makes since that they would show up on those pages since Google would have Mormons listed in their Christian category.

President Bush's next nominee to the Supreme Court is likely to have a strong conservative judicial record, and sources close to the White House say the leading candidates are federal appeals judges Samuel Alito and J. Michael Luttig.

The expected nomination on Monday comes just four days after Harriet Miers, the president's first pick to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, withdrew her name after blistering opposition from some of Bush's most conservative backers.

Alito and Luttig both have strong conservative credentials and would be embraced by the president's political base. Others thought to be under consideration, according to conservatives monitoring the selection process, were federal judges Karen Williams, Priscilla Owen, Alice Batchelder and Michael McConnell, as well as Michigan Supreme Court Justice Maura Corrigan.

Bush worked to finalize his nomination over the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland before returning to Washington on Sunday afternoon. Miers, who continues in her job as White House counsel, joined the president at Camp David.

In reading the opening article, I discovered this concerning Judge Alito's past decisions:

A concurring opinion in Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey v. Farmer, 220 F.3d 127 (3rd Cir. 2000), in which Judge Alito recognized that a New Jersey law banning "partial-birth abortions" was unconstititional in light of the recent Supreme Court case of Stenberg v. Carhart, 530 U.S. 914, 120 S.Ct. 2597, 147 L.Ed.2d 743 (2000).
