If a ministry is built on and centered on a man and not on Christ, then it is doomed to fail when that man leaves or dies. That's what Paul talked about when he lamented that some said "I am of Apollos,......"

Yes, and traditional church will fall away also as has been the trend, because nothing happens in these "funeral" homes lol.

I would say that the downward spiral of the schuller ministry began MANY years ago, and had little to do with his family dynamics.

Personal Experience...

I would say that the downward spiral of the schuller ministry began MANY years ago, and had little to do with his family dynamics.

...told me long ago (25 years ago, WOW!) that this ministry was controlled by one persons philosophy.

I attended several church planting seminars where Schuller's people were guest speakers, and I got to meet several of his top people during breaks, and at one lunch ( I sat and talked with them, hoping to gain some insight into what made them so dynamic), and they were very tight lipped, judgmental, and only willing to share that which was conducive to their ministry's gain. They were like mini-schuller's.

In short, I got the sense that they were operating out of a spirit of selfishness and self-promoting. Needless to say, I was disappointed by what I observed, and elected not to attend any more classes taught by their folks.

Think that IF based uon Christ, ministry will stand, but if built on a person, will fade away!

I agree the Graham family seems to have the right focus--CHRIST--where as Schuller's focus seems to have been lifting up man. Look at the school systems now that pushed the self esteem programs for years, they are failing.

I wonder what Schuller thinks of these verses: 1Co 1:28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,
1Co 1:29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

Looks like another big problem with 'family" ministries is the Board that suppossed to oversight the ministry is family/friends "yes men" who look the other way, refuse to correct when necessary!

Schuller simply took advantage of the tremendous prosperity present following WWII. Orange County California experienced unprecedented prosperity beginning in the early 1960s.
I recall when his "church" was started in a failing drive-in movie theater (poor location). He stood atop the snack bar and the congregation stayed in their cars and hung the little
speaker on the inside of the driver's window.
During those years, you could just about arrive in California and fall off a turnip truck and make a success of yourself. So, he was the first to preach the "prosperity gospel" and the
"I'm OK, your OK" gospel appealing to the "Natural Man", the "Carnal Man" interested in self-gratification.

Now, prosperity is gone in Orange County California. It is in a "Great Depression" of sorts. I suspect it is reflective of the "Faded Glory" of what was once the Great United States,
a nation once "Under God".

Remember reading in his new reformation that JUST as the reformers had biblical truth restored, church need to get back to 'self reformation Gospel", and realise that we are so good that Jesus was willing to die for us!
