Will You Remain a Baptist?

I will, unless they turn liberal. I don't agree with all they do or all my Preacher says, but I don't think any of us do. But when they have to debate about female Preachers or gays in the church I am gone to another.I won't stay and try and change it. If I was a Catholic right now I'd be gone to another church, not because of what the Priests did, being bad enough, but because of how the church has hidden it for all these years.
I have lived where I am for almost 2 years and haven't joined a church yet, hard to find a good one. People just don't seem to be friendly any more.
Oh well.

Baptist, always. Any significant change comes from within an orginization.

 

As far as my church goes, there's no other church in town where I feel at home.

As far as my denomination (the Baptist General Convention of Texas), I'll stay with them unless they move like the Southern Baptists Convention did.

 

I have been very disenchanted with Baptist Beliefs in general as of late. It seems Baptist congregations have become too political, and to disagree with whatever the political bandwagon du jour is would be tantamount to heresy.

It seems many Baptist congregations have become hotbeds of hate and anti-christian behavior, hiding their hatred behind the Bible, thus perverting God's word.

CUrrently, I plan on tendering my resignation at my congregation, and will be leaving my Baptist brethren, after the end of the year. After some preliminary searching, it is likely that I will joing either a Reformed or Presbyterian congregation.

 

I'm sorry to hear of your struggle. I've gone through some similar things, but probably not as intense as yours.

Don't give up on Baptists yet though... It sounds like you've been dealing with fundamentalists and legalists. There are Baptist congregations out there that actually get along and don't browbeat members/churches into violating their conscience before God.

I'm fortunate enough to be a member of such a church.

I am not in love with the name Baptist, but I am in love with what it traditionally meant to be a Baptist. I can't see me changing my doctrinal stance.

Currently, I attend an Anglican Church, my wife's church, and the church I grew up in and was schooled through. I am not an Anglican, however.

I will fellowship with all believers in the Lord Jesus, and overlook doctrinal differences for fellowship.

There is no Baptist church in my immediate area, or we would most likely attend one.

I am a Christian by God´s grace, and a Baptist by conviction. But I still struggle with whether the SBC will be a safe haven under which I can walk as Jesus walked

 

Like Bro. Glen, I will remain a Primitive Baptist, as long as there is one to attend. If for some unknown/unforseen event made that impossible, then off to the Presbyterians I go.

Seems like there a lot of anger. I know of all the people that can hurt us the most seems to be our brothers and sisters in Christ. When they bite it always seems to hurt more so. But, remember all the things we go through are for our good, if we love Him, and I am sure you do. Making a more out of anger or hurt feeling might mask the will of God in your life. No matter what happens being in His will is always best.Remeber all the "stuff" Jesus had to put up with from religious people, but He didn't change the course for which His Father had called Him and neither can we.
I have prayed for you, what ever you do, do it as to the Lord brother.

I appreciate the concerns and warm support. Thankfully, while my faith in Baptist congregations wanes, my faith in Christ Jesus does not. Indeed, it seems that much of what I've been dealing with has been with those engrossed in legalism and fundamentalism, neither of which I would subscribe to personally.

I'll keep y'all posted.

It is my opinion that membership in a church is likened to the marriage my wife and I have. I have quesioned others in the same position as yours. God sovereignly places you here under this eldership. This eldership has been called of God to oversee the care of your soul. To forsake this as *devine*, one can miss the point. Why would God lead you out at this time? One should consider if God is moving you or your flesh. Have you prayed about this? Are you sure the Lord is not leading you to stay, pray and set an example?

Of course, I do not know all of the items that have caused you grief. But to me, one of the issues festering in the body of Christ today is just this, membership is truly not membership, it is a place to hang ones hat until the rack falls over. Leaving churches sometimes shatter lives. Families are hurt, the body becomes resentful, gossip ensues and everyone finds themselves falling out of fellowship with God because of the sin.

Baptist born, Baptist bread, and when I die, I'll be Baptist dead...thats me!
I love my church! They are like my family! Docternaly right, firm standing, non wavering, KJVO, old-fashoned, Independant, fundamental, faimly type surrounding...hey, why would I change?
But in all seriousness, I'm not changing denominations, but if the Lord leads me to live somewhere else, I would prayerfully seek another church. {Although, I'd probably still remain close to my old church, and you'd have to understand about my birth family to understand why I consider my church to be just as good as family.}
But all in all, I guess I could feel at home, and comfortable in any plave where there are saved people who love the Lord and teach correct doctrine.

I grew up in the SBC. Then in my early 20s I attended Primitive Baptist churches in Roanoke, VA, near Eden, NC, and in Northern VA. When I moved to Atlanta, GA I returned to the SBC. I will be a SBCer as long as they remain free from liberalism. If I had to ever leave the SBC over liberalism I would go to an IFB church I guess. I find it hard to believe that you would abandon the Doctrine of Believer's Baptism and go to an infant baptizing Presbyterian church. I know the PCA is pretty sound in its other doctrines (as opposed to the liberal PCUSA), but if I were you I'b at least consider an onther Baptist church before giving up Believer's Baptism.

 

I am firmly convinced that the Baptist church functions in accordance with the Bible in doctrine and philosophy. They adhere to the precepts of God's Word, and for this reason, I embrace the Baptist name. However, if the day were to come when the Baptists no longer stand on the Word of God, and err from the truth, I will throw the name Baptist out and hold to the Truth.
