Windows XP

Is the game an old or new one???

It may not be a problem with xp rather a problem with compatability of older software with new drivers. When I upgraded to win2k from win98, I had several games that wouldn't work anymore because they couldn't use the new operating system.

 

We bought a computer with XP and took it back the SAME day!

Sometimes Older Software Asks For Lower Versions Of Directx and again incompatable Video Resolution Freezes Up Software. Try and make sure of Technical Paperwork or Readme Files To See If Additional Software (ie Drivers) are Necessary or Special Lower or Higher Video Resolution..

I have had a computer with XP for about 6 weeks and LOVE IT! I have yet to see a blue screen, have a freeze, or an unexpected reboot.

I do know that if you go into properties for a program there is now a tab that says compatibility. If you click on that tab you can check the box that says "run this program in compatibility mode for" then in the drop down menu choose Windows 95, Windows 98, ME, 2000 or NT 4.0. My understanding is that this will fool the game into thinking it is running under an older version of Windows.

That seems to be the trend with XP: people either love it or hate it. I haven't been into computers terribly long but I have learned to manipulate 98 pretty well. I can convince the computer to do things that it really wasn't crazy about doing. XP and ME make it hard to get into the computer's head. I think that was our problem with it.

Yep. I don't like it at all. I left Windows behind for personal use several years ago and have never regretted it. I now use a Macintosh system with OS X, a UNIX operating system with a very nice intuitive interface. I've been running it since March of 2001 and have never had a crash. I use Microsoft Office so I am compatible with everyone else and have the option of running any Windows OS on top of the Mac OS if I need to run a Windows-only program, but I've personally never had the need. I find that most versions of Mac software is better than the Windows counterparts except for games. Microsoft has even pointed out that Office v.X (for Macintosh OS X) is the best version of Office they have ever produced -- including Windows versions.

At my current job, we use Windows 2000 and I find it more stable than XP. (We have a small number of machines running XP in the network to test how well it works and we have had problems with many of the machines becoming unusable. (Granted, there was no blue screen of death, but if you can't do anything with it, then it has *CRASHED*!) It is particularly unstable on a machine (a very new high-end machine) connected to the scanner. Some days it works fine, other days it won't scan at all -- just locks up.

If I had my way, I wouldn't even use Windows at work.

 

I have windows XP and it has been miss-behaving a little lately. We had a game that was bought at Ross and it was one of the older type not too old but for Win 95 or 98 or something and it did not work. One thing I did notice and I don't know if any one else has is that sometimes when I shut down the computer it stays on the shutdown screen but does not? Has that happend to anyone? Another thing I do not like is that if you have a problem with a program, turn off the computer and try it again, it usually does it again and asks you if you want to send an Error Report! Ohhhh I don't like that

Choosefaith, I know there is a setting somewhere that will turn off error reporting. Its late I'm tired and can't remember how to do it. Maybe tomarrow I'll remember.
