Women and Chaplaincy

There are women in the military. So why not women chaplains? Men have no business counseling women. It is just asking for trouble.

 

Chaplains are ministers, not pastors per se. While there is scripture that supports the idea of banning women as pastors, there is no ban on women as preachers or ministers. They ain't the same thing.

In that light, I think it's scripturally permissible to have a woman chaplain.

 

You folks bring up an interesting point.
IF a church for - whatever possible wild reason there might be - was all female. Should the Pastor be female?

 

In the strictest interpretation, if a church were all female, a female pastor would be permissible by scripture.

Now, here's another question. If a woman were preaching (but not pastoring), is it permissible for a man to listen to her preach? The Great Commission certainly doesn't forbid a woman from preaching, nor does it forbid a man from listening to a woman preach.

This should not be a problem then, since men rarely acknowlege learning anything from women

 

People rarely acknowledge learning anything from their Preacher's and Pastors either.

 

I think it's about hearing the word of God that makes the acknowledgement as far as women doing door to door and street preaching.

Infact I don't like witnessing to men because they think I'm hitting on them! Guys are sick.

Actually, a Chaplain is a pastor of a non-church or non-traditional flock. They are pastors of the church of the nursing home, hospital or 3rd BN. I recently took a course for volunteer chaplains and the first role they defined for a chaplain was a pastoral role. Any pastoral role is off limits to women per the book, like it or not. It's jist how it is.

 

Oddly enough, I can't recall ever coming across a female chaplain. Of course, it seemed as if the Navy was reluctant to send women Corpsmen to Marine units as well, so that could be why.

This is an interesting question. Part of the job of military chaplains is holding the religious services in the chapels on base. So, it seems as if this could be overstepping bounds. But, it also seems as if there could be instances where women would serve quite well in these rolls.

 

My husband and I were chaplains at a juvenile detention facility and I didn't see a problem with that because a lot of the young women needed a female to visit with them because of certain things going on in their lives that they didn't want to talk to a man about.

 

Gee, I'm feeling very good today. Not sure that is true that we are all sick.

Sounds like some are watching to many commericals on TV that make men out to be the dregs.

Hope those holding these impressions continue and act on their false bliefs, thus saving some poor man from marrying them
