This may be a dumb questio, but it is a stand that my home church takes, and a lot of people disagree with, so i'm curious to see how others feel about it. Do you think it is a sin for a woman to wear pants? What are your reasons for agreeing or disagreeing?

I think it would be a sin if she didn't wear any pants.

This subject has been done to death. Of course it isn't a sin.

There is no Scripture that tells us that women wearing pants is a sin. It's just not there. We are not to wear what belongs to a man and my pants purchased in the women's department cut entirely different from a man's pair of pants do not belong to men. For those who say that pants in general belong to men, I'd challenge any man to wear one of my pair of pants and walk around town in them. I doubt he would because 'they are women's pants'.

I have to say, if I were to wear anything of my husband's, it would look quite funny. He's 6'1" and 240 lbs. I'm 5'3" and 145 lbs. :D Just wouldn't work at all. LOL

However, we ARE directed to dress modestly and wearing low rise pants which show the light of the moon when you bend over, or wearing spray painted on pants is not modest IMO. I will wear slacks to church often and they are loose-fit and certainly do not draw attention anywhere. But just as often as I wear slacks to church, I wear skirts that come to my knee or lower (just thinking of church for tomorrow and I think I'll wear my long black suede skirt with a red sweater - gotta make sure they're clean......). I dress femininly and do not ever look like a man.

Seriously...

Are people still talking about this?

What happened is that somewhere along the line, Fundamentalism decided that it was easier to tell it's people what they should and shouldn't wear, as opposed to teaching the people Biblical modesty, and they took it hook, line, and sinker. So, now we have people who don't allow the Spirit to control their actions, but instead, have to check their churches handbook to tell them what can and can't wear.

Bummer.

The Bible only speaks of women not wearing men's clothing. Women's slacks are not men's slacks. I found that out when I bought some jeans at a thrift store only to find out when I tried to put them on that I'm not built right for wearing them; and I wasn't able to get them on and had to throw them away.

I never wear woman's dainties anywhere, even if those "pants" are worn under trousers............

If one wants to get truly biblical they would have to wear something similar to a robe. Pants are not anywhere to be found in the Bible. They were never worn by men ior women. However modesty is.

When I was a kid growing up on a farm looking back I could not imagine anyone in my family wearing a dress while shoveling manure or working on top of a pile of hay with the wind blowing.

They can't wear pants unless they are preaching, drinking alcoholic beverages, or wearing a head covering.
Bwahahahahaha!

This whole thing got started because of faulty exegesis and it continues because of faulty exegesis. Those who revere the Word of God will not misuse it. Those who misuse the Word of God do not revere it.

Women in pants? Shake them out! Same as you would with ants in pants. One time I was playing in a leaf pile and got leaves in pants. Had to change my pants!

Oh well.

[Sigh!]

It has been a few months since a new thread on pants was started.

Personally, I think everyone should wear 'pants' just like Ol' Henry.

Or was that Sir Walter??

On second thought, nevermind!

Now, Ed, you know that there was great controversy over Henry's kind of pants in his day. The codpiece was scandalous from the church's perspective.

If your church teaches that it's a sin for a woman to wear slacks, they are teaching bondage and not scripture, opinion and not God's word.

Could be. I'm not hardly that old, however, so do not remember Ol' Henry. Just the pics. I only go back to the 'Baby Boomer' age, myself.

We tend to get all wrapped up in women wearing trousers, but forget about the exploding bosoms projecting into bareness, where a man must always look to the sky for relief or at least remove his bifocals.

Which, unfortunately, has been par for the course for about 1900 years.

It's only a sin on the Sabbath, as putting on pants is "work".
