World Peace

It is a common song for the world to sing. From American Beauty pageants to political statements. All are for world peace. And at times you find Christians getting caught up in the euphoria of seeking world peace. And it makes one look so caring and concerned when they say it.

But, the world's peace means nothing to God. Just like with unity, if your unity is not based upon God and Jesus Christ, God cares not one whit for your unity. Same with 'peace'. If your peace is not based upon your relation to God and Jesus Christ, God cares not one whit for your peace.

I'm in (Zechariah) in my daily Bible readings. I have come to some interesting verses. (Zech. 1:7-17) The vision of the rider on the Red Horse. Zechariah is a prophet during the dispersion of Judah. Jerusalem has been destroyed by the Babylonians and the Jews are scattered.

God sends an angel to Zechariah. (1:9) Zechariah sees a rider on a red horse, and probably other riders on various colored horses. (1:8) Zechariah asks what are these? (1:9) Another man explained in (1:10) "...These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth."

See how active the angelic realm is in mans activity on earth. And these angels who have walked about on the earth, come and give this report of what they see. (Zech. 1:11) "And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest."

A good report...right? The world is still and at rest. It is a good report from the world's view. But not from God. Remember the world is at rest, but at this time Israel has been destroyed. Jerusalem destroyed. The Temple destroyed. The Jews are scattered. But the world is at peace. And this bothered the angel of the LORD, and so he asked the LORD, (1:12), how long till the LORD shows mercy to Jerusalem?

The LORD answered in (1:13-15) He said He is still jealous for Jerusalem. And He is angry with the heathen who are at ease while His people are under severe judgement from Him....the very heathen He used to bring about this judgement. (1:15) The world is at peace. At ease and rest. But not the people of God. God is not pleased at their peace.

The world is at peace when it destroys and silences the people of God. But it does not bring peace between them and God. It invokes Gods jealousy and anger based upon His love for His people. Interestingly, God says concerning his anger against Judah, that He was 'but a little displeased'. Quite a statement if you have read of the fall of Jerusalem under the Babylonians.
