In a few weeks I will be preaching a series on Sunday nights from the book of John covering the seven "signs" in John.

When I preach on Jesus turning the water to wine, I plan to use three first-person narratives to present the story. The first narrative will be Mary, the second, one of the servants, and the third, one of the disciples.

For Mary, I plan to write out her part and have a lady in our church present it. Since the sermon is "mine" and since the female part she is presenting is pre-written by me, and since her presenation is only a part of my larger presentation, I feel that this lady is not exercising authority over the men in the church by being a part of the presentation.

Do you think I am stepping over the line or are you comfortable with what I am doing? Honest feedback is welcome.

    I wouldn't have a problem with it.

What she would be presenting would be under the authority of her pastor. No problem.

I agree completely. She is not usurping authority, she is simply the mouth piece of your sermon. Deaf Evangelist Ronnie Rice uses his wife to interpret when he preaches to the hearing crowds.

Good grief! Mary was THERE, and she was a woman. It's just a play. Should we have only boys in the Christmas Pageant?

I'd have a problem if you DIDN'T use a woman.

Sounds good to me. Narrative can be an effective (and not often used) preaching tool. Presuming the strictest adherence to men only in the pulpit, there doesn't appear to be anything remotely inappropriate with what you're looking at doing.

I agree with C4K, while I don't think women pastors are biblical, I don't have a problem with what you are doing.

I also don't have a problem with a woman praying in church, a woman missionary addressing a congregation to give a missions field update, etc.

I had thought about putting on a skirt and doing it myself....
    :D

Seriously, thanks for the feedback. I haven't seen this done so I wasn't sure what the "gut" reaction would be.

she is not even teaching, she is a prop, a living illustration. Sounds interesting. I love studies in the Book of John.

I think having a woman do it, with the approval of the pastor, is a great idea! [IMG] I have no problem with that at all.

Just adding support. She is not preaching but taking part in a skit, play or demonstration.
You would have to be a real pharisee to have problems with they way you are doing this.
